Anyone tried the Scorpion STR and the Karoo Street? I wanted to get the STR but they were out of stock until Sept. Pirelli supplier said they could supply the Karoo Street as an alternative, so I’ve decided to give them a try.

Initial 150miles have been positive - good grip, smooth roll and L-R transition, but feel almost Michelin-like in their drop in. Very positive traction and steering on gravel. I’m still keen to try the Scorpion STRs though - anyone have these and can comment? And yes, switching to a 70/30 or 60/40 for now.

Here are pics of the fresh Karoos shortly after fitting:

Not tried the Karoos but the STRs are my default tyre now.
Had them on my 790R and ATAS. New set going on ATAS next month.
Despite the blocky look they are amazing onroad and pretty good off it too.

STRs all the way, I have the full rally version on my off road wheels which are awesome off road but not the best on road, the STRs on the other hand defy their looks on the road, they are amazing in wet of dry and ok off road if not horrendously muddy.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I will be glad to give the STRs a try when they come back in supply.

So i dropped about 1psi out of the Karoos and they now behave impeccably on turn in on tarmac. The stiffer sidewalls allow you to run lower pressures and there is then more give in the tyre as it rolls preventing the sudden drop-in sensation when over-inflated. So much better and the grip levels today were astounding around some fast left-right handers and some of my favourite onramps and roundabouts. Chemical grip from the latest compounds are fantastic.

Sandy tarmac and loose gravel were no problem for the Karoos and they steered sharply and were confidence inspiring with some real bite. So much better compared to the previous 90/10 PST2s...

Without trying the STRs, the Karoo Streets are very very good. Considering they come from the same company, not too unsurprising I suppose.

I have the STR Pirelli a, did 3000 miles still going , the front is noisy , very good grip in wet and dry.

Hmmm. That’s a shame as I forgot to mention that the Karoo hums at motorway cruising speed (65-85) on the straightahead. However I very rarely ride long stretches on any motorway so it doesn’t bother me too much.
