Ive just bought a Kenwood PMR TK3207. the instruction manual is in Ching chong chinaman.
This model must be very similar to the TK3107...................so, what are the two buttons on the left hand side for?

any help would be good!

It's a bloody good job our armed forces are well versed in the arts of modern communication isn't it...or we'd be in a dire state!!!

:P

The larger one is the PTT and the smaller the squelch.

I believe the squelch level is set via the software and a data cable.

Looking at the TK-3207, it has 3 buttons on the left side. Little Ebbo (my son who has a 3207) says the top button is PTT, of the other two, one is squelch, the other is programmable to do what you want, in fact he says you can program both small buttons to do what you want (within programming constraints of course!)

Good luck!

Cheers guys, (and girl)

pretty straight forward then.......................1-4 for a copy, come on back, good buddy. pick a window.:D

Hi Nige

This is a bit after the fact, but have a solution.

You need software to set the function of the 2nd small button. As default, it does nothing.

If you want the radio programmed, QT / DQT, frequency changed etc it has to be done with software. Thus if you want to communicate with other 3101 or 3201 radios in the UK

I have a setup. Charge £25.00 for the pleasure. Post just the radio without battery, and I will return likewise.

Hi All, Recd a pair of 3207 radios on Fri from our Overseas Chums and just had a run upto Applecross this weekend (Fantastic roads)

A friend and myself had them set on channel 1, radios attached to the tank bags, but struggled to get them work over about a mile range. Is this about the norm or is there some setting up to do?

Tony

Things that effect range are:
Terrian (line of sight is best)
Obstacles (Buildings, and even heavy wooded areas can mask a signal)
Orientation (upright antenna transmit further, matched orientation gives maximum performance i.e. both sets with antenna upright)
Elevation (the higher you can get your sets with an upright antenna the better)

To my knowledge you will see no gain in range between channels.

My expectation of these sets was too high. I guess because of the 4w power delivery etc, but in practice I don;t consider myslef to be riding "with" someone if we have a seperation of over a mile and a half. Mine have performed well just over 2 miles (crow flies) in optimum conditions and that has sufficed

Hope this helps.

Eddy

Hi Eddy, thanks for that, maybe we also were expecting a little more from the higher power of these radio's.
The range generally is ok it's just the times you do get seperated is normally the time you want to communicate, guess someone is going to have to slow up a bit :(

Regards Tony

Any advice on best way/position for radio in order for aerial to be pointing upwards (other than putting in jacket pocket)? Mine is currently tucked under the seat horizontally in order to plug it into the autocom.

Cheers, Will

Hi Will

I have the clip attached to the back of the radio, and then have it hung on the strap at the back of my TT tank bag. Keeps the radio upright and you can get to vloume/channel buttons ok. The autocom lead then comes up between the tank and the front of the seat.

Regards Tony

Cheers Tony, sounds like a plan. What TT tank bag do you have, how do you find it in use etc?
