Keyless Ignition or not? Comment please

I bought a new GSA in Sept but the bike was in the showroom so spec was already determined and included keyless. I probably wouldn't have paid the extra had I been ordering from scratch.
Had an issue which wouldn't let me open the fuel filler cap. BMW said it was an issue with the cap itself, not the keyless system. However, it wouldn't have happened on a bike with a traditional filler cap. This issue did shake my confidence in the system...but over the last few weeks all has been fine and keyless is starting to win me over. It is more convenient than a key, especially at petrol stations.
As a few others have already pointed out some of the good old work arounds will no longer be available if the bike has issues...but it is winning me over.

They gave it 160bhp to make up for the fact that it's one of the ugliest motorbikes on the road.

The GS was never a looker, until the latest version, but that monstrosity KTM turn out takes ugly to a whole new level.

Being 40bhp makes some people very bitter
I don't have a 40bhp bike.
My other bike has 160bhp.
I still prefer the slower, wheezy, 125bhp bike.
Sorry, back to the tread.... yes get it. It is great to use, becomes second nature after a while. But you do have to use the key to remove the panniers and raise the seat

I know of someone who dropped the fob out of his pocket somewhere in France. As the bike had started it carried on running until he stopped for fuel 100 miles later and only after turning off discovered the loss. Needed BMW rescue.
FTFY .... I tink! It was on the demo bike I had and I found it quite useful. As said no faffing about with keys at filling stations and if the scroats are going to nick your bike unlike cars keyless won't make any difference as they'll just have it away in a van.
I've a 1600 GT and if I put my jacket in the top box with the key in it, a warning light comes on telling me the key isn't close enough to the ignition button. You can't leave it behind anywhere or drop it without a big warning light coming on the dash.

Sounds like anyone who has included it in the spec of their bike........ likes the feature - but:
I wonder, if further down the line - people will be asking for ways of removing it (much like Servo ABS)?

I like it, I just need to wire in a Givi topbox to work with the central locking and sort out the Satnav locking too. If we ride a long way or go on tour the Mrs keeps the plastic key in her jacket just in case, doubt we will lose two keys at the same time. As for it going wrong, I suppose it can, I will have it fixed. How many instances of BMW cars having it fail? Does anyone know? I think every BMW and Mini has it fitted now.
