Not such an epic, but I figured I better do something on a Monday when I can't remember why I booked the day off.

A pleasant 100 miles or so, up the A696/A68 almost to Byrness then hung a left down the Forest Drive:

I think it's about 19 miles long, not a soul on it but me...

Road names hint at turbulent times in the Borders...

....and home.

The weather was better yesterday, but the only bike I saw today was Norwegian FJ1300.

:)

Looking good - did you make it onto the Langholm - Eskdalemuir (past Samye Ling) road by any chance? Been hearing a lot of good reports about it being resurfaced lately.

Never explored those roads, I generally stick to the main drag and just pass through. Just zoomed in on Basecamp and realised there's loads of forest roads...hhmmm :beerjug:

It was resurfaced a couple of years back but in places they seem to have laid an extra thick layer on top of the existing road and to prevent the verges from crumbling they've reduced the width, so that in places where you might previously have managed to squeeze a couple of passing vehicles through, it's now strictly single track.

Coming South towards Langholm, a couple of weekends ago, three of us came face to face with an approaching wood wagon and had to paddle backwards for quite some distance to a wider piece of road so that we could pass each other.
Having grown up in Langholm, learned to drive on those roads 40 years ago and made progress up and down there ever since, I know them pretty well. They can, however, be pretty challenging if you're less than able or not quite on the ball.

WTF, Mr K, is adorned to the front of your screen .... :eek

Camped in Kielder with Jamie and Whatton.

Turned out like a scene from Breaking Bad.

Nice one. I was stuck inside all day. Bikes off the road anyway waiting its service.
