Well I picked up my lowered white one yesterday from AJ and rode back home via the dales. wow, what a machine. My last 3 bikes were boxers, RT, GC TC and GS LC. SWIMBO declared that she no longer wants to ride pillion so hence the new toy.

What a brilliant machine.
Some initial thoughts.

1. lowered means that as I'm a short arse, 5'10" i can get both feet flat on the ground which gives you so much confidence.
2. quality & finish seem much better than my GS LC
3. handles absolutely pin sharp much easier to throw around than the GS and it keeps it's line in corners to the mm.
4. the engine, absolutely ballistic. Spent first half in Road then onto Dynamic, overtakes are just unbelievable as is powering out of bends.
5. suspension is harder than the GS but flawless in handling the shit roads we have. Fork dive on breaking is new to me so will need to adjust to that. Brakes however are super powerful.
6. wind noise is about the same as my GS LC, screen in low and no buffeting, quite happy.
7. now the vibes, yes they are there but not much more than my GS which always made my hands go numb after a while. Secret is to use the box, which is gorgeous with the quick shift. Keep out of the narrow vibe band. You've got 9k to play with until the first service, use it all, it's an engine thats meant to rev and oh boy does it respond.

You cannot compare it with the GS (which is just what I've done:blast), it is a completely different machine, a sports bike with a sit up riding position. If you want to take pillion and luggage in comfort to the South of France get an RT, the XR would be the wrong choice by miles. Want to tour on your own with just a small bag for the skiddies etc and have the time of your life, then yes this is definitely the bike.

For me it was the right choice as I needed to get away from the "adventure to Tesco's" mentality.

The XR is mental but perfectly controllable.:D

Wait until you have it serviced and then see just how mental it can be !

Dynamic pro is not for the faint hearted but an absolute hoot if you want to come out of every corner with it stood up on the back wheel ! :thumb

Can't wait to see yours Rick ! What made you pick that bike?

More importantly, is it comfortable on long runs ???

I picked as ultimately its a better bike for me than the GS lighter and more nimble and plays to my inner hooligan :D

If i am honest the GSA was a tad too big and heavy for me even though i loved it. There are many things i will miss about it but the XR suits me better.

I have done a 230 mile day on it and yes so far the comfort is almost equal to the GSA as the ergonomics are pretty much the same so touch wood it will be fine on our Scottish caper. No where near as good on Motorway as the GSA but I avoid them like the plague any way

Stop the presses....

Read all abahhhht it.... Read all abaaaaahhhht it.... Man discovers that 160 bhp, multi-cylinder bike out-performs 120 (or much less) bhp heavier flat twin, shocker.... Read all abaaaahtt it.

PS Those (much derided) sports bike riders have know it for years. Nobody has believed them, until today. All hail Munich!!!

PPS Good bike, just the same. Enjoy it as much as you did your previous bikes.

When does yours arrive?:augie:D

I've always known it would go quick. Sports bike owner like wot I is. Be very disappointing if it didn't.

When do Hilltop start unleashing the real beast that lurks inside? The RR variant kicks out 192 bhp....... That's the target to beat, your two minutes starts.... Now.....

Is your XR in?

Can't be bad

When most of us who have now changed bikes from the GS to the XR first got the GS in 2013 and some again on to the GSA this forum was full of all sorts of issues and problems. Me for one loved both my WC GS bikes and what a great bike they are too. But now compare the issues we all talk about on here now, it's all wow how fast it is how smooth it is no real problems apart from a slight vibe somewhere in the rev range.
The XR is a very different bike with some similarity with the GS but I love it as much as I did my GS,s
No complaints,

Can't be bad.

Anybody got an actual time for a standing 1/4 mile ? A proper drag strip break the timing light jobbie mind.

Be interesting to compare with my best time on my old Fazer 1000 MK2 which was a similar revvy beast that I sold for a quarter the price of an XR.

I much prefer my LC, just saying :)
