Kitty / splitting bills on tours

i was thinking he may have a " rough tongue " as he won't take any fucking around .
he strikes me , as being just like me , takes no prisoners , doesn't suffer fools gladly .
 
Kitty for us for everything apart from hotels and fuel, topped up when needed. Always been cash, mainly because a couple like to keep the true cost of the trip a mystery to their partners. They both have hiding places in their garages where they build a stash over the year. We’ve toyed with the idea of a pre paid card but invariably resort to cash.

I think that sums me up quite well..👍👍👍

…and I just don't like when people just take the piss on such occasions. Its different if someone is a bit short and just cant afford to split..but then be up front about it and say “I’d prefer to pay my own way as I am a bit short”. Perfect, and no issues at all….but dont ride on others goodwill when splitting…

And yes I am a bit direct with folk….gets me into bother sometimes but thers no bullshit or pomposity either…. I’m not better than the next man….never!!

Naaa, mate…i wouldnt have gotten there……I’d be still lost in Brittany….or northern France trying to get to you in Spain….. 🤣🤣🤣
 
This has just happened to me on a group ride where before the trip one rider had to pull out for medical reasons and I bought his ferry ticket and re-book hotel rooms in my name. He was sharing only on a couple of nights and to keep things simple I re-booked for two as he had, so as not to complicate things. Remember I was new to this group.

It was agreed the other rider, I’d be sharing with, would reimburse me by bank transfer and not being unduly concerned I said after the trip was fine when I got my credit card bill.

It took me 4 messages, a missed call and a month later for payment.

Not acceptable. Lesson learned.

I’ve been waiting over 30 years for a ‘friend of a friend’ to repay me several hundred pounds from when he decided to join us, without an invitation, on a boys trip to the States. Not only did he take the piss with the kitty, he borrowed money off me that he’s never paid back and then didn’t pay his share of the taxi costs to and from the airport. Written off to experience.

Expensive lesson learned, I only join kitties with very good friends and certainly won’t ‘front’ costs with people I don’t know very well.

Offers for rounds are made as required , some partake some don't. It's a fairly balanced system

Food is always pay your own way

Your fillet mignon, may be very nice but you ordered it , you pay, for iit

Whether I take advantage of the kitty is immiteral

I'm out with friends, that's all that matters

If you feel that strongly, then pay your own way. But make it clear from the get go
 
I always pay upfront and we split it when back home, never any complaints even when we damaged 2 rented bikes in the alps. Usually 4 or 5 of us., never been a problem.
 
In a larger group everyone pays their own and contributes to the tip .
That said when touring with a mate we just pay the bill on alternating evenings and there is never an issue.
Used to get thoroughly pissed off when the greedy tw*t who has a starter the most expensive main course and a dessert (when everyone just has a main) and more expensive drinks than everyone else is the first to suggest just splitting the bill evenly .
Or when the bill for 10 people is say £20 each (£200 total ) yet once you put in your £25 to cover the bill and tip as does apparently everyone else !!!!! the kitty strangely enough comes up £20 short
 
I make a point of ordering the most expensive thing on the menu and necking lager like it's going out of fashion..... because I'm a cùnt like that.:)
 
Blimey, some people make it hard. They’ll be counting the bubbles in the Perrier next.

PS I believe that Perrier is the only off the shelf water with obviously odd sized bubbles. Be sure to check, when you order a glass. You don’t want to be palmed off with any old CO2.

We have used Splitwise for a few years, flights, ferries, Members Meeting Tickets and general event entry, accommodation. Brilliant tool, easy to use and saves any debate
