Hello,

my name ist Uwe and I`am from Germany, exactly nuremburg. Please excuse my bad english, but i hope you will understand, what i want.

In June of this year i will spend my bike-holidays in scotland. We will come to rosyth and want to discover the highlands and something else. Maybe we will go for a one-day trip to belfast by ferry. also we want to the visit elian donan castle, but we are looking for small roads in scotland for our GS.

My question to you is: Maybe somebody have waypoints or routes for a garmin gps ?

Oh god, i hope you will understand. It is very difficult for me, when i can not take my hands by speaking.

Best regards from a cold and white bavaria

Cleggs

Uwe, June is the time that the Cleggs begin to hatch, no I'm not joking, these are nasty little black biting insects and are a real problem, I'm not kidding, if you camp you need to be aware of this, they make life a misery.

In early June you may get away with it but if it gets unseasonably warm 2 or 3 weeks before your arrival you can expect them, may could be better or all of Sept, one of the scots lads will tell you more.

In good weather Scotland is hard to beat anywhere, there are some wonderfull roads and scenery but like everywhere in ripoff UK hotels are expensive.

Welcome to the asylum Uwe....

Your English is much better than most people's German over here...we understood you perfectly and i'm sure several of our kilt wearing types will be sticking stuff here for you very soon.....

Have a great time when you're here and come back often...we have a lot of European members and you're more than welcome!

PS Elen Doran is a fake....it was built in 1911:rolleyes:

Beautiful though.

Spent an enjoyable 3 weeks in Nuremberg last summer. Parked our caravan on the site next to the Grosse Strasse.
If you post your e-mail address I`ll send you a mapsource file with routes n waypoints.

Thank u for so many feedback. Only the little black monsters, which visit scotland at the same time like me is not a good news. But we are no campers. I need every night a bed. In German we called this bikers "warmduscher" means "take a warm shower boy". Maybe is a bad translation.

Our plan for the tour: We will come to rosyth, than we will drive to oban, than we will go to Kyle. We plan to drive on the coast. We will stay for 6 Days and maybe we will look to some castle, but at the first we want biking.

For some points of interest for biker, i will be very happy.

Here my EMail: [email protected]

Thank u an best regards. Maybe we will see some biker of UKGS.

Hi Ewe

I am sure our Scottish UKGSers will advise you of the best roads on your route to ride.

If Edinburgh is not too difficult it would be worth taking in Edinburgh Castle in the centre of Edinburgh constucted on the core of an extinct volcano. There is also a road out to a large volcanic rock outcrop known as "Arthurs Seat" with spectacular views over Edinburgh the Firth of Forth and the road and rail bridges over the Forth. Heading west along the north shore of the Forth there is another castle at Stirling then on towards Loch Lomond and the Trossacks with interesting roads and scenery. The further north you go towards Oban and Fort William the more spectacular the scenery becomes. If you can ride the A82 I think it is across Rannoch Moor and through Glen Coe to Fort William which is north of Oban that is worthwhile.

My German " ist sehr schlecht" but would "warmduscher und warmdu sche" be much more interesting??!!!

Enjoy your vacation and the Scots hospitality, and have a safe trip

Regards

Hi Uwe
I have been up to Scotland the last 2 summers - in August each time. The first year no midges (little black beasties) but last year they were everywhere. As soon as you stop to look at the nice views , thousands of them attack. They are really unpleasant but as long as you keep moving they can't keep up :D
There are so many good roads to ride in Scotland and I'm sure many people will recommend you lots of good roads.

I road down the Eastern side of Loch Ness. The western side is the main road while the eastern side is fantastic deserted tracks. At the southern end of the loch the road turns into a narrow twisting descent down through a series of hairpin bends until you join up with the bigger road at the bottom.
Another good ride is ride down one side of the Mull of Kintyre to Campeltown then up the other side. The Western side is a nice fast road with some great twisting sections as it follows the water the the Eastern side is really narrow twisty track back up through the forest and the heathland.

Take a look here for some pictures from my trip last summer .
I can send you a GPS route if you want me to , just let me know.

Gute Fahrt :D

Hi,

it will be very nice, if u can send me a gps-route, so i think my gps have something to do in scotland.

Last summer i had drove the ligurische grenzkamm straße, it was very strenght for a GS 1100. It is a road between france an italia. 90km long and highest point is by 2200m, called monte sacarell.
I mean, that i here see some pictures in another thread, which almost the same like there, but i´am not sure.
we are looking for very small roads and i think, i`ll do it right, when i´am search for those in scotland.

Maybe it is crazy, but do u think it is ok, when we want to go to belfast for one day.

Sure, come to Belfast, only a short trip on the morning high speed ferry from Scotland. Lots of German visitors here each summer. Have a look around the city, then go north on the Antrim Coast Road. Spectacular scenery, and one of the best biking roads here. Stop at The Giant's Causeway, then along the north coast to Portrush for lunch. Do a circuit of the famous North West 200 road race course, back down the motorway to Belfast in time for the evening ferry back to Scotland. About 250 km max.
