Hi,

I have just returned from my first trip on my 1050 and my only gripe is the short gears, you are up through the first 3 in no time.

What is the best way to alter this? front sprocket and which way up a tooth or down.

Has anyone done any other mods on these bikes yet.

We drove from Ghent to Birmingham yesterday in rain and I must say the bike is very good.

Thanks for any advice/help.

John

Bigger front or smaller rear.
Going bigger on the front 'may' be limited due to space and going a lot smaller on the rear can supposedly wear a chain quicker due to smaller diameter (dunno if that's true or not?).
I'd suggest 2 teeth smaller on the rear and see what it's like,,,,,,,,,,
If the box is the same as my 1190? you may find it makes top too tall as I can't use 6th gear as it is until I'm doing 75ish.
Out of interest, how flexible is 3rd on the 1050? Now mine's got some miles it'll go down to 20 before bogging down and up to NSL before revving out.

I don't think you'll get a bigger sprocket on the front. It's really tight in that area. First does seem very short, but otherwise I'm happy with my 1190 gearing. I don't know if it's the same as the 1050?

Maybe it's your 18" wheel Andrés, but I'm using 6th by about 60 I think.

Thanks for the help, 3rd is fine it will slow down to 20 then pick back up again the main niggle is pulling away at lights etc, I get through the gears in seconds where as the BMW seemed longer legged.

I really enjoy the bike its nibble and quick, well quick enough to get me in trouble.

I found the 1050 very nice to ride in town very smooth and docile better than my 1190 altering the gearing you might loose this

Your probably right, I'll stick with it I think.
