Lake District 2013 .
Off up to the Lakes for 3 days with four girls ,
whats a man to do . Take the bike and meet up at breakfast and tea time .
Allows time for them to shop and visit old haunts to show Lilly 7 going on 14 year old granddaughter. She wants to be on Grandpas bike . Thankfully she is yet to be able to get her feet on the pegs and hasn’t passed her test yet.
Tuesday. 28th May
We move off together at 10.30am ,boring part done I depart at Junction 50 A1 and have a run round in JBoxers backyard, or Gods Own Country. The Peak District is The First National Park though.

The weather is threatening rain so at some point I stop to sling me poncho on to keep me very dry . So a mix of roads , some hooning , a little air ,
some bimbling , a few mainly on the move photos , a torrential downpour on approach to Kirkby Stephen ,

finally arriving at The Woodhouse GuestHouse Keswick ,a family favourite. All the girls have settled in and apparently in my absence a `Tigger` has moved in for the next 3 nights. Apparently I am in the single bed and Lilly Tigger is in the Double with Grandma . I remonstrate and make lots of noise
but smile inside knowing I will have a goodnights sleep.
Tonight we have booked a table at Casa Bella
A childs portion.

Wednesday 29th May
Up for Breakfast at 8.30am porridge followed by a full English , made by the owner Ann and served by Norman , they are friendly and attentive and make each visit an excellent experience. They are motorcyclists themselves and will advise on roads and routes. They also offer walking and cycling information and advice. A grand couple. They are situated 1 mile from Keswick centre. The walk in and back develops a good appetite.
Today the women folk are off to see The Beatrix Potter Experience , shopping and a boat trip on Windemere.
My route is planned to pass a few Lakes and take in some lesser used roads to get there.
Sat Nav primed , maps at the ready , full tank of 95 ron sun visor down lets go. Reality check it’s the Lakes sunvisor up, too cloudy , wet weather camera. Oh well makes for lovely photos all this changing light.
The run will pass Lakes , Thirlmere , Grasmere, Rydal , Windemere(with binoculars),Coniston , Wast Water , Ennerdale , Basenthwaite,Buttermere and Derwent.
116miles of mainly backroads , stopping to photo , no one to please but myself. Its not raining. Bliss.
A few pics.

Meet up with the Family catch up on their day , quick wash and brush up and off to Keswick for Tea at the Packhorse, under New Management and thankfully much improved. Recommended again.

Thursday 30th May
Girlies off to do Whinlatter Pass , Buttermere (little café , homemade ice cream Sykes Farm) and the Slate Mine on Honister Pass.
My thrown together route 128 miles
Hartside Top, Alston , B6277 , Hude B6276 , Brough , Kirkby Stephen , Kendal, High road over Mislet Brow , drop back down nr. Troutbeck , Ambleside and back to base.
As ever the ride up to the café at Hartside Top is excellent apart from 50mtr visibility on the Summit. The descent to Alston not much better, cleared by Alston. Over the Moor to Hude was scary on the Top as loads of sheep you couldn’t see for mist again, the little baaaa lambs testing my esp to the limit. What a loop though the B6277 and B6276 a cracking road. Very few cars visibility improved . What a Hoot.
Weather improving from Brough to Kirkby Stephen, took another fell road Ash Fell/Ravenstonedale,then A roads to Kendal and onto toward Windermere. Took another high road over Mislet Brow . Another good choice. Half these roads today never been on before. Excellent.

Meet up with the Girls , they have had another excellent day too. On the way home they have booked a table at Casa Bella again. Tried to get a table at a Different Taste but the guy on the phone was so abrupt and rude, Julie told him he had just lost 5 customers and heard his jaw hit the floor and say OH , sorry.
This place is highly recommended on Trip Advisor on the food front.
Meal at Casa Bella again very good.

Friday 31st May
Breakfast at 8.30am chat with the owners for awhile putting off the leaving as long as possible. Packed and farewells done we are off just after 10 am. Persuaded the girls to go cross country , with the promise of Lunch at the Cheese Factory in Gayle/Hawes.
Route was Windemere , Kendal , Sedbergh , A684 Hawes following our route to junction 50 A1 then home.

Hawes

Many Romany Carts on the Way up to Appleby Horse Fair.

That’s all folks .
A link to more photos so you can while away a few minutes of your time. Preferably when you are meant to be working to keep the economy afloat.
