LAMPR warning light

Hey all - I recently fitted a second tail light to my GS LC 2013 (see my previous post on carrying a bicycle on my GS). Anyway, all works fine but after 10 minutes the 'LAMPR' warning light and triangle appear on the dash.

It goes away when I switch off/on the ignition. As far as I know, the tail light is working fine so just the error message on the dash (which is annoying).

Any ideas or experience of how to resolve? I briefly spoke to a BMW dealer who suggested it may depend where the wires were cut/connected (in my situation near the rear tail light before the connector - seemed the obvious place).

Thanks

What kind of tail light did you fit? I'd have thought that an LED light would be obvious choice to minimise the current draw and lessen the chance of the bike throwing a fault code. If you've already fitted an LED light then..... :nenau

I fitted an extra LED tail light on the top box and initially got the same as you. Even the additional current draw from an LED light brought on the alarm.

I got round this by interfacing the extra light via a couple of pcb style microrelays and using the tail light wires to switch the relays, all ok now.
(connected the topbox light via a waterproof 3 way plug/skt.)

I've fitted an additional LED tail light similar to the top box style ones. Thanks for the suggestion - may need to wire in some relays.

Hi Mcinlb - just wanted to check, did your topbox tail light go out or remain on so just the warning light on dash? I've noticed my tail light does actually goes out when the warning sign appears on dash (indicators / number plate light are fine). Strangely, the extra LED tail light stays on but the brake light functionality doesn't work. I also think that it may not be a timing issue (i.e. after 10 mins) but more when I increase speed and open throttle so assume there must be some kind of surge of current that knocks it out? If I remove the tail light is all goes back to normal and works fine.

I did not keep the tail light on long enough to really notice, once I saw an alarm light on the dash i disconnected to try some load testing to see what current the 'new' light was drawing.

Regarding your combination of lights and what is on/off , perhaps the canbus system is switching the bike rear light off when it sees a 'fault' . Your removal of the extra light restoring all to normal supports this idea.
