Dongle confusion
Just a quick note on dongles!
Non-wifi enabled laptops can be fitted with a wifi dongle. This basically allows internet access through an existing wireless network. A wifi enabled laptop already has this capability built-in so does not require a wifi dongle.
The other type of dongle people are referring to (I think!) is sometimes called a 3G card, which is basically a USB stick or PC card with a mobile phone SIM card inside it. This enables internet access by connecting through a particular mobile phone network.
The 3G card connection will be much, much slower and you will pay for every KB of information you send and receive. wifi is generally pretty fast and will either be free, if you can find an unsecured network, or charged by the hour\day depending on the hotspot provider.
The advantage of the 3G card is that you are not relying on locating a nearby wifi hotspot as you can connect to the internet from anywhere which has a mobile phone signal of GPRS quality or above (Edge, 3G, etc).
Hope this helps!
