Laptop mouse pad help!

depends

The pad on my laptop seems to have gotten more sensitive tonight, it's doing my nut in!
How do I adjust the sensitivity? :nenau

Is it a PC or a MAC? If it is a PC try this:-

Step 1

Click the “Start” button in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen.

Step 2

Click “Control Panel.”

Step 3

Double-click “mouse"

Step 4

Click the “Touch Pad” tab.

Step 5

Use your arrow to adjust the tapping speed from “Slow” to “Fast” to suit your needs. The tapping speed is what determines how quickly you must “double tap” to launch a task. For example, if you want a very sensitive touchpad, you should raise slide the bar to “Fast”; if you want a less-sensitive touchpad, slide it to “Slow.”

If MAC based, click the apple logo (top left of screen) then system preferences, then trackpad.

Thanks Hops.
It's a PC. When I click on the mouse icon a warning pops up "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver". I then click OK and the mouse properties panel appears, but there's no 'Touch Pad' tab.
XP BTW.
When I touch the pad, half the time it highlights and/or drags stuff about. :(

double click the synaptics icon in the system tray ( bottom right corner ) when it opens , it should be in there somewhere in one of the tabs

is there

no option of changing the sensitivity from the mouse option in control panel? It could be the driver for trackpad needs to re-installed. Have you installed/deleted anything recently which might have changed the settings inadvertently? There is a way for someone to remotely connect your computer and check the settings for you (effectively taking over your desktop). There are several ways of doing this, do you have any teenage kids or relatives, they normally whizz around the keyboard?

Failing this I can do the remote connect thing but am working late tonight, would be around tomorrow evening. PM if you wish. You could also try plugging an external mouse in, either wired or bluetooth connection.

Doesn't appear to be. :nenau

Possibly. :nenau My Mrs. spends a lot of time on the computer as well.

I do but I don't think they'd be any more clued up than me. :nenau

I haven't got a spare mouse, I'll have a word with the IT chap at work, he might be able to sort me out or let me borrow one from work.
Cheers for the offer hops, I might might take you up on that if Bob can't help. :thumb2

Sorted now.
I had to download and install the driver again. Then I was able to switch off the 'tap to click' option.
Job's a good 'un. :thumb2
