Large Airhead fuel tank - what do you think?

I need a large tank for the airhead, mine (19.5 ltr) fits on the fron bar and is a push fit onto the rear frame with some thick plastic causing enough grip to hold it in place.

What do those that know think of this tank.... I'm told this has brackrets for rubber straps at the rear.

Wreford. Yours should have a steel strap that hook over the back of the frames spine to hold it in place.

I had one of those tanks in the picture off of Tarka. It was intended to fit the earlier twin shock frame so didn't fit the Monos frame properly. If you look in the picture the tank doesn't fit the seat. It's actually too wide to sit on the monos frame correctly. You will need a load of padding and some rubber straps to hold it.

I've seen a couple of them for sale, they always seem to be up North so I presume somebody up there made them.

I filled mine up with water to see what it held. I think it took 42 litres.

If you want it for your Heros and Legends It's probably going to give you grief. Just buy an acerbis or fit the Paris Dakar tank. Johnny did sell it to you didn't he?

He did say he had pipe lagging on the frame to help the fit which fits with your it's not designed for mono frame note....

So thanks for the feedback it's saved me time, money and head scratching.

FYI... I brought the bike with the 19.5 liter tank only, maybe I need to bite the bullit and buy an Acerbis

What you mean the rare as hen's teeth freshly painted and stickered WITH Gaston Rahier's signature on it?

I don't think it was ever offered for sale to Wreford :augie

Personally I wouldn't fit that anyway, rare and being metal heightens the chance of damage and replacement wouldn't be easy, in any case I think the Acerbis would be cheaper :eek:

The Acerbis would be the best bet because its highly replaceable and susceptible to knocks, it will also mean you carry more of your fuel lower down meaning you can carry less, usable volume won't be much different to the later PD's 35 litre volume but you get to carry it better.

I was offered one once for £200 and I thought what would I want one of them for :blast
 
Anyway you could fit an 1150 GSA tank? It might look quite good.

The genuine metal 32ltpd are expensive and not that easy to get.:augie
when rob got his one i thought it was expensive but then realised how much these things go for.

the transfers and pads also add to the cost.
i am still paying for the tank i have now:D

ught it was expensive,but since then realised how much these things cost.
like judge ,i was also once offered an acerbis for i think 250 .
so they are out there.

not sure if you ar eafter a metal or plastic tank.
 
Fitting a paralever tank will give you another gallon and it won't cost too much either.
 
Standard seats fine just cut the loop off the top of the tank - not essential but you wouldn't want to catch your tackle on it :eek:
 
If your planning on using that in the Heroes Legend Rally expect the worse. It will fall off as will many other parts. Frm my experience this year evrything that can work looses does so make sure you use lots of lock wire and locktite. The terrain is fantastic but will shake your fillings out as well.

BTW Dave Alexander used the standard 23 litre tank. withough problems. Any momre is too much ans too much weight to amnhandle when dropped as it inevitably will be.

Looks like a 23 litre is the way to go then and I think Dave A also used a QTech rear end so it should work ok with mine
 
I'm currently working 3 days a week normally T, W & T in the UK in Harlow Essex which is not a million miles away from you, should you want to get together sometime in the not to distant future. I will gladly give you the benefit of my knowledge and experiences directly for your assistance.

I am also quite friendly with the organisers of this years HL as you no doubt already know that Mr Auriol will not be involved. The guys who are running it next year real good guys. Although Clive Dredge will see you alright as well.
