Latest software - increased fuel consumption

Had the very latest software installed 2 weeks ago during 12000 service. Since then the fuel tank range has reduced by about 20 miles.

It's not the fuel gauge reading differently, the amount of fuel going in confirms the readings.

Anyone else found this?

Colin.

Actually yes I have - thought I was not doing something right but seems to be about 20 miles less range per tank. Also the alarm does not seem to be setting quite so easily - again thought it was me but see this is also mentioned in another thread.

Must ring the dealers and see what they say.

Chris

Just a guees, but as i have heard of 1200's running lean maybe the mixtures been leaned up a little ?

exact same thing happened to my bike after latest software update

It all makes sense:

I thought running my heated vest was spoiling the fuel consumption and when I came to go for a ride, Sunday morn' the alarm would not respond. Turned the ignition on then off and all worked okay, but bike seems to getmuch lower range than before.....

:eek

PS Had the "upgrade" done 5 days ago.

anyone else noticed this?

I had the latest software put on to fix the flat battery problem that I never had and now I have an annoying alarm which I didnt have before.....havent done enough miles since then to say if the consumption has been affected tho....hope not :(

Same thing happened to me. No battery problems, upgrade to software at 12k service. Fuel consumption now noticeably worse. In addition, my fuel gauge is now playing up! I have asked BMW to explain what is going on! I will post their reply, if I get one.

blimey - 20miles less..?! How much is that btw? My tank range is quite different depending on what/how I ride. If I ride to work in the dry I get about 180 miles... If I ride on the motorways (say across belgium) I easily get 230 before coming onto reserve..

So, 20miles less than what?

Just a thought; You've not started riding faster because of the bike feeling "happier"? 20miles is, after all, within the "eagerness-margin" :)

No not riding any different. The only change I've noticed is that the bike doesn't run on with a closed throttle at low speeds.

I used to get around 200 miles before the fuel light came on, now it's about 180 miles. I reckon this is about 5mpg less.

At the moment bike has 200 miles on the trip and the countdown says 17 miles left.

Blimey - seems quite serious then! I usually get fuel light on at about 180miles anyhoo... wonder if it'll be at 170 after the update

Same for me. I consistently got 240 to 250 from a tank. Since the software update its down to 210 to 215. Still not bad and it seems to have improved the throttle response which is less snatchy now. :thumb (mind you , I never had a flat battery in the first place)

Had the 12k service last month and I'm now down to 210 from 230. Could it be the computer thingy forecasting your remaining range a little more conservatively and therefore prompting you to fill up earlier? I.e. BWM covering their rear in case you run out of fuel in the freezing weather and sue them?

I haven't paid attention to the amount going in but will do so tonight. My guage reached "0 miles to go" 10 miles ago!!

i have always found that i use more fuel in cold weather, maybe the recent cold snap is a factor. had my upgrade on monday and have noticed all the improvements mentioned above, have not ridden far enough to test any fuel increases yet.

Good point re: Cold weather: My first ride after the mod' was 330 miles in 3-6C, easily the coldest that the bike has been ridden in.

I wonder, how does one qualify a tankfull???
Perhaps if mpg was used a more accurate comparison would be at hand.
From my own experience my fuel consumption has not atlered and on one recent trip (bimble mode with wife) I recorded 58 mpg. No problem with that then.
Post software upgrade - I am happy; it still isn't right, but a damn sight better than it was.

Sorry to be a spell breaker here (is that the right words? Probably not) but after I had an update, I get MORE milage from my machine. Where I jused to get 350~360 km, I now get up to 405 on a tank. Ok, its dead empty then, but then I never got that before!

fuel gauge definately acting strange today, showing only 1/4 tank left after doing only 70 odd miles. very wierd

20.5 litres is a tankfull on my bike :thumb

As I'm filling the same tank on the same bike to the same level and I',m reading the same gauge each time I fill it I don't consciously calculate the mpg as miles per tankfull is close enough for me :thumb
