OK, I am in a quandry. I have got my bike well and truely STUCK. It is on gravel, on a hill - and is on the centrestand because the fuel was siphoning out with it on side satnd (I had just filled it and come home)......I have had a neighbour come and help me to try and get it off the stand, but BETWEEN US, with both our weights on it, we cannot move it.

I tried giving him a plank while I tried to rock her forward and he lever her forward under the rear wheel with the plank - that didn't work either. I don't have the luxury of lots of folks around that I can call on.....anybody any other ideas please? We are both sitting down for a cuppa, absolutely knackered at trying to move the thing. We must have been at it for half an hour.

So, go on, laugh away, but when your sides have stopped hurting, please give me some kind of helpful ideas. :rob

Not funny, have had a similar situation that eventually managed to sort out.

Only thing I can suggest is, put the side stand down, turn the bars to the left and push like hell from behind, otherwise, you're going to have to dig it out.

Try turning it around so it's facing downhill?

Btw, laughing my balls off :D:D:

Lay the bike on its side , flip the c/stand , spin the bike around or pick bike up and turn it around. There are two of you, right?

Have you got any bricks around you can wedge under the front/leading side of the back wheel. Shove the first brick in tight and if you have enough make a 2-3 brick track. Get on, start it up and try to ride up onto the bricks...

That's my penneth. Now I'm gonna have a laugh .

Let us know how you get on!

How? - we can't move the thing at all. It is far too heavy to swing around on the stand. Maybe for you young bucks......I was on a course to learn how to handle it off road. They were trying to teach us how to pick the bike up if you dropped it. Lay it on its side......turn handle bars and then lift with both hands under the one handlebar, using the bars like a lever.....only I put my back out trying and could take no further part in the course. My course lasted about 45 minutes instead of all day. I couldn't ride it home either. I had to stay over and wait until the pain killers had worked the next day.

Back to the gravel hill - the gravel also makes your feet go out from under you, reducing the amount of oommph you can give it. Compounding the situation. This is on our drive, it is gravel on a hard base, so we can't exactly dig it out. It is merely the angle of hill that is precluding getting it over the critical point where it will fall forward off the stand. I might go out and try rocking it round sideways, to reduce the angle though - that is a good idea. Thanks!

Is there room to spin it round on the centre stand? This is something I sometimes do when the need arises.

Do not try and tow it out.
Any thing that's stuck that fast won't tow out without bending something, trust me (BTDTGTTS)

Chuck your jacket on the ground (or some branches/foliage) under where the cyl head will go, then push it over on the side...spin it on the cylinder head until it's pointing downhill (or out of the ruts) then pick it up.

Simples.

Please see my explanation about the off road course above. Absolutely no way I am trying to pick the fallen bike up again. I know I cannot do it, even the way the instructors said it was easy (for them - and you, maybe. It just ended with me flat on my back for a week and requiring diazapam and cocodamol 4x a day).

Otherwise, good advice for people to take away with them - this is on our drive. I actually like the tow it out idea, because I am blocking the car in! I only need an extra couple of inches to get it to go over the stand return point, which is why I thought a plank might lever it over. I will try stepping the front of the rear wheel and driving it off too - that could well work, but I only have about 2 feet in which to stop before ploughing into the wife's car!

Stand at the side, turn the wheel away from you and pull on the far handlebar; the bike will come towards you on one leg of the center stand. Either you or your friend can then pivot the bike around the stand dragging the back wheel.

You did it wrong then.

I have hurt my back picking up my 1150GSA fully laden, but that was because, full of adrenaline immediately after I'd dropped it, and with a bunch of gawping twats sniggering, I rushed to do it rather than taking ten deep breaths and doing it properly.

(actually, I dropped the same bike on the fast slip road of a German Autobahn when McShouty stopped suddenly in Berlin and did a u turn back up the ramp, but that's another story :augie)

Anyone who is capable of riding a GS should also be able to pick one up, with the right approach.........back injuries included...do it right and you don't and SHOULD NOT use the back at all :)

Sit on it. Start it. Rev it to around 2k. Put it into gear and drop your arse on the rear of the seat and it'll ride off the stand and spray your neighbour with gravel..

If you have a engine hoist (block&stacked) try putting a horsontal pull not as brutal as towing. There is another way hop on bike start it up stick in first and ride it off the stand. JJH
