I've been trawling this site for info as I'm about to go orange in the form of an LC4 640 SM. (GS is staying put) Full of usefull info but I need some answers and I need them now.....

I like the idea of the SM but would like to have the option of changing over to enduro wheels every now and then for a bit of dirty fun.
So far everything I've read said no for SM to Endurio and yes for Enduro to SM.

Why is this exactly? Has anone tried this with or without success. If it's possible how and what do I need?

The thing is a really good mate of mine has just bought a Honda XR650 and has offered me the bike in pristine condition for a really reduced mates rate but I would like to have the enduro option if we are to shake hands on this deal.

I would be greatfull for any educated comments on the subject before the usual miccy comments start rolling in.......

Cheers all!!!

The most fundamental reason will be suspension.

The SM has suspension specific for the road and the E suspension specific for off road.

From a handling point of view it's ok using off road suspension on the road but not so good using road suspension off road. Having said that, if your only intention is the odd green lane 'bimble' I'd not have thought you'd not have any issues.

That's all it's for, the odd green lane bimble. If I like it allot and want to get more serious I would start looking at suspension set ups. Only issue is the fitment which a kind gentleman on the KTM forum has confirmed as a match apart from the caliper bracket........

Cheers for the reply:thumb

Enduro to SM is the easy way thats how the SM scene started a MX or Enduro bike with a set of 17" wheels and a beefed up front brake :thumb2

You shouldn't have any problems with the 640 sm if you used stock hubs and laced offroad rims to them that way you won't have to feck about with the front brake set up...or you could try something a little different lace a 17 " rear and 19" front and run TKC 80s ... Would also be a good idea to fit a bashplate ...

You've seen the place's some of the guys on here take there GSs :D a 640sm with knobblies will be sound :thumb2

he was just a little unlucky:D just the back wheel caught a hard part as he was just tring to get the front wheel over large lump in front:) then it went vertical..done very well to hold it up right ...i think a smaller rider whould have it on top od him:)
