Le Mans to Berlin and a bit beyond

As I thought, the site is predominantly a car park, which has completely filled up after I left for the circuit this morning.

It’s all very well organised, in an amateur way:

It looks like you’re having a good time - unlike my successors in the Stewards Room who published Judicial Decision #131 over two-and-a-half hours ago!

😱

I decided to walk around the circuit, leaving my camp site at just after 23:00.

There was a full course yellow in operation from when I arrived at La Source (not far) until I had walked all the way to Pouhon, the fast left turn as the cars come sprinting from the uppermost part of the circuit at Bruxelles. The cause was a very badly smashed Porsche:

From there, I trecked up the steep hill, the cars racing past me to my right:

It’s now 01:30 at the top of the circuit and I can hear that a fresh full course yellow must be in action. It was quite short, so it’s time to wander down the hill to Eau Rouge and back to La Source:

Still there, phew!

The current race leader started bang last from the pit lane.

Porsche lead Ferrari, the two cars divided by under a second after 16 hours of racing.

Great pictures wapping; what a circuit. :beerjug:

There is an ‘art installation’ project in Germany, that’s been going on for a few years, known as Stolpersteine or literally, ‘Stumbling stones’

I had seen the ‘stones’ elsewhere in Germany but, reading that there are four ‘sets’ in Seelow, prompted me to see if I could find them. I was successful for all but one set, so I’ll cheat for the last, which are situated at the ‘White House’ supposedly the grandest house in Seelow:

These stones were in pretty close proximity to each other, maybe 15 minutes walk apart.

The ‘White House’ is a little way outside of Seelow, down the hill a bit, past the railway station and the large Russian memorial.

Here a potted history on each:

The Warsaw will, I assume, refer to the Warsaw Ghetto.

I have found a picture of the Cohen family’s stones (who were wealthy and lived in the White House):

Given that Seelow is a very small town, it is inconceivable that these Jews’ fellow neighbours did not know what was going on.

That brought me to the end of the day. A long way on a push bike bike, but worth it for the reward:

Wappping, I found these in Freiberg. I tried to find some history on them, never seen such things before, whilst stood at their location. I thought it would give me chapter and verse but nothing really.

Currently:

1. Porsche (the one that started from the pit lane)

IMG_0126.jpeg

2. Mercedes

3 Ferrari

IMG_0128.jpeg

The Ferrari and the Mercedes are a second or so apart. The Porsche, a few seconds ahead.

30 minutes to go….

It looks like the Porsche that started from the pit lane will win, providing nothing goes awry.

Second and third is between the Mercedes and the Ferrari, and still very close, the two cars divided by about a second after 23 and half hours of racing.
