Nice with air con thenI remembered that next door to Camping 35 at Spa, the fellow also lets his field out.
I asked nicely at the gate and all was well:

I’ll be here until Monday morning, roasting and enjoying the 24-hour GT race.
Now to pedal down to the petrol station to buy some beers. Tomorrow morning, I’ll wander (or pedal) up to the very good butcher in Francorchamps, to see what he’s got on display.
====
It was a very slow drive over, with a lot of roadworks and a pretty large crash. Very busy (as expected) crossing the Rhine.
Nice with air con then
Better than roasting in a bike in the kit
How long have you been away for Richard ?
NiceI left on the Chunnel, mid-afternoon Wednesday 03 June and return on the morning of Tuesday 30 June, Chris.
Did you miss the parade to Spa?

Is the Francorchamps hotel still on the go just down from the butchers; it used to be a ruff old night in there years ago; we used to camp in the farmers field on the corner sort of across from the hotel. For years I have known about the very good butcher in Francorchamps village, but had never been in.
It is tip-top, especially as there are no other shops as such in the village:

The village has though changed since I first started coming in the late 70’s and through to the 90’s. ‘Le Bed et Breakfast’ has definitely arrived and plumbing!
Great pictures of the night viewing; one of my happiest memories was sitting in the stand across from the pits at getting on for 3 in the morning with a few beers watching the pit activity before they shoot off down to Eu rouge and off up the hill; a fantastic place;; seems like a life time ago with how i am now.The hotel is still there but is derelict and has been empty for years.
It was rough in the 70’s, when we used to camp in its grounds. I went through the security fence around the place a year or so ago, I’ll dig the pictures out.
The field you mention is probably where ‘Camping 35’ now is. I like ‘35’ but am coming to prefer its neighbour, which is a bit more relaxed, in a ‘Camp in a field’ kind of a way. Nice family running it, too. That said, I’d be happy with ‘35’, too. Sometimes, it’s fun just to try something new.

My first 24 hr at Spa it hammered down, Eau rouge looked like a torrent we was at the top looking down and to be honest i thought there was no way they were going to start ; then the famous micro climate kicked in and they were on their way;; we were left sodden and contemplating our ride back to Robertsville where we were staying . Believe it or not that's when we made the decision to start camping so we did'nt have to leave the actionThe old pits, which were on the right of the track, were great. They were the traditional ‘counter’ style.
The riders and drivers all complained about the starting grid, sloping downhill, so it was eventually moved.
The house (it’s now an office of some sort) on the outside of the La Source hairpin, used to be a bar in the 70’s. I spent a happy times in there with Mark Salle, Steve Parish and others, before the Belgian GP.
There used to be a trick in qualifying, to sacrifice a lap by deliberately running up the hill towards Francorchamps, spinning the bike / car around and use the extra momentum to set a faster lap time.
I was there in pouring rain for practice, when Boet van Dulman I think it was, slid off at La Source and aquaplaned past us on his back, waving to the grandstand as he slid towards Eau Rouge. Happy days.

I’m surprised that there isn’t separate air con for when parked up …. Bloody cheap crapI don’t have aircon in the body of the vehicle, only in the driving cab portion. That said, it was working overtime yesterday.
The nice thing about a Mercedes Sprinter conversion is the large sliding door and the rear barn doors, which let air through. The vehicle though is black, which gets, shall we say, somewhat warm to the touch.
Having the silver screen helps too, keeping the direct sun off the cab and reducing the chance of any condensation at night. One of the best things to buy for any camper or motorhome.
