Hi, I'm on a tour in Scotland and I've got a leak from the final drive output seal, It started off being wet under the housing but now it's leaving a bit of oil on the wheel and sidewall of the tyre.

It's a 2018 GSA, I tried calling Edinburgh and Glasgow Motorrad in the hope they'd have a look, but neither had a seal. As I don't know how much I'm losing, I'm just putting in 50ml each morning (it would be easier if it was a like a car diff with regards to filling)

When I get back on Sunday I need to change the seal but I'm struggling to fi d any decent information, other than, prize off the cover, use to screws to pull out the old seal and drive in a new one. Do I need to remove the final drive, or can it be done with it attached to the swing arm?

If special tools are needed, it'll have to go to a local independent. There are a couple near Swansea I trust.

the thing I'd be wary of is if the seal lets go big time and you get a load of oil dumped in one hit (which I had on a 1150 once). The fact that you're seeing it leaking onto the tyre-wall would make me extremely nervous about riding it much further without getting it done.

Bit off a bastard it happening on a Friday of course and these things never normally happen at a convenient time...

I would caution against being too enthusiastic about topping up every day without reference to the level.
Just as with blood, a little oil goes a long way.
I would only consider topping up when there was clearly a lack as evidenced by a splurge over the wheel tyre and final drive..

Mine just started leaking in the same place. BMW have opted to replace the driveshaft due to the unknown amount of wear with a reduced oil level. My back brake pads were soaked and useless and it was the lack of hill hold that alerted me to the problem. A warranty job, zero fuss or quibble by BMW. (25k Kilometres, '23 bike, Road use only)

I should have replied to this thread with an update.

I removed the final drive and it to Big Al in Ammanford (he's good). I'd not noticed how notchy it was, it was very tight for a nearly half a turn, then nice and smooth for the rest so it was swapped for a silky smooth used one.
