following my collapsed final drive bearing and it`s replacement i tried two aftermarket oil seals, both failed to seal in the oil.

therefore i got Motorworks...great people by the way....to ship me a genuine oil seal from england. after fitting it today i thought all my worries were over....NO SUCH LOOK !!!!

what can posssibly be causing the oil to leak past this seal.....i checked the breather to see if it is clear and it is and i suppose it it difficult to overfill the bevel box.

we have been in Buenos Aires now for nearly one month with all the problems and we need to be back on the road soon.

as anyone else ever had this happen to them and if so what was the remedy.

please help soon, sitting here in desperation !!!!

I was told by the dealer mechanic when I had some leakage (a few table spoons at most) into the boot that this was normal and not to worry as it was designed to allow some self lubrication of bearing??? It appears to still be fine3 a few 1000km later. How much is it leaking? Remember oil often appears more than it actually is.

Which seal are we talking about - there are two in the rear drive unit -

the large output flange seal, which leaks onto the floor/rear brake disc -

or the input shaft seal, which leaks into the drive shaft .

hiya steptoe,

the seal that´s leaking is the large output seal, as you know the one that leaks onto the floor and rear brake disc.

i believe there is a proper tool to fit to seal, here i do not have but i carefully inserted the seal and now it sits flush with the cover.

any ideas ????

I had same problem last week bought seal from dealer fitted it (15 min job) push fit still leaked, went back to dealer told it could be the drive has gone pourous so i bought another seal and it was a tighter fit seems to have sorted it
