is it normal for the filler hole in the fuel tank to fill with water when the bike has been stood in the rain as when i open the cap to fill up water runs into the tank, does this cause damage & how do you stop in if so

There is a small drain hole which blocks up. If you open teh cap and look aroun dteh fuiller neck it is about the 9 o/clock poistion. It exits out of one of the pipes by your right foot. It goes through tehtank so be carefull what you shove down it.

I used a small cable tie and poked about gently suddenly it cleared and all was well.

You could try blowing it clear.
There's two breather tubes by right footrest. (Plus the battery overflow [smaller])
Open fuel cap so that one hose should blow easy - allows air in and out of tank as gets filled/empties.
T'other one is your blocked one.

You can access both through the filler cap. Undo the recessed bolts all around, and lift the whole filler out of tank. Large black 'o' ring can be a bugger to put back though.

be careful not to use to high pressure when blowing through the pipe -

it can become detached inside, and you'll have fuel pissing out the pipe, and
it's a fuel pump unit out job to fix it .

Hmmm sounds like thats from first hand experience.

On the subject of the O ring I read on ADvrider that if you coat it with petrolium jelly aka Vaseline it makes it alot simpler to reinstall. Tried it and the thing just slipped in place with no problems. :clap

But what about the filler cap "O" ring ???? :ymca

A mates 1150Adv had the same problem , we tried using some 0.6mm MIG welding wire to poke it clear with no luck. I then fired about 80 psi of compressed air in quick blasts and it blew the shite out and it drains fine now. The water getting into your fuel tank causes your fuel gauge to read incorrectly, and it may also cause corrosion to the bottom of the inside of the fuel tank. I doubt it does your fuel injectors and engine much good when 'burnt' either.

blown it thru suprised how much crap can stick in a pipe ta for help all seems fine now
