LED indicators for airhead

Would like to change indicators bulbs to LED and change relay/flasher unit to work with LEDs. Can anyone advise on suitable kit for an r80st?

Techno of this parish produced some LED tail lights for airheads recently( and very good they are too).

If there was enough demand, he might consider making some for the indicators also.

I would certainly be interested( at the right price)

Yep, I got the rear LED lights from him as well - they're great!

A while ago, a guy on the 2v-GS forum in Germany posted a diy solution:

Open up the relay

The M-form bridge, (circled in red) must be removed - if you can unsolder it, you can replace it if you want to backout - or you simply snip it off.

Then, solder a 1.2 ohms a resistance across (at least 2 W).
Youre finished.

Not done it myself you understand

Hmmmm, interesting....have you got a link to the original German post?
I'd like to know if this mod actually saves some power, or is simply using the resistor to fool the relay?

The mod is for '91-on airheads with left & right indicator switches on the handlebars and cuts-out the fast blinking circuit (when less load is detected, i.e broken bulb) - I did think the flasher looked a bit funny...thought I only have a 'simple' square box with 3 contacts in my old ST.

Looks like one of the universal flasher units may be ok?

I put a set of LED replacement bulbs in mine and changed the flasher unit for one that supposedly corrected the flash rate whether there was all bulb, all LED or a mix. It didn't. I'm told it's because of the dash warning light that it wouldn't work correctly.

I'd be interested if Techno came up with a solution.

I've got LEDs in the dash repeaters since a while - doesn't make a difference in flash rate to the original unit.....perhaps that would sort it for you?

What bulbs did you install?

Just the LED equivalent bayonet type.
