LED indicators - LEDs blowing

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's had LEDs blow in their replacement LED indicators. Mine were from Nippy Normans. Water got into the right rear one and 3 of the LEDs had blown, causing this:-




So I found the part number and ordered replacements from CPC

15 mins with a soldering iron and a solder sucker and it's all fixed. Simples

And yes, I know the number plate isn't straight. It seems Vines don't have a decent square.

Any agent who turns out workmanship like that needs F****** or have the plate inserted sideways where the sun don't shine.

These bloody people charge an arm & a leg for Labour and produce a crap standard .... probably fine that a first year apprentice did it on the minimum wage .... which makes it even worse.

Personally, I don't really care if the numberplate isn't square - I was just heading off the pedants/piss takers amongst us.

Had a similar number of blown LED's also on a set from NN, was replaced for free with a new unit.

One thing to note - I think that the amber LED's are soldered 3 or 4 in series to get the right current/voltage so if 1 LED goes in the group the rest of the group won't work either.

It's 4 - they drop 2.7v each, so I guess it makes for a smaller resistor that needs to dissipate less heat, so it all 'fits' into the requires area.

My R12GS's rear light was replaced with a LED panel 'Design Version' from NN. Water also caused one row of LEDs to fail. So this water ingress problem isn't just with the LED indicator lights.
