LED Rear light

Will this work with my 97 R1100GS (ABS)

It will obviously fit in the light housing, but I'm not too sure about the IBS bit ?

thanks

As far as I'm aware...the IBS bit just means that it has a resistor in it which fools the ECU into thinking it's a 'normal' 21w brake bulb and that it's working fine.......On the 1150GSA with IBS, if one filament is broken, it switched to use the other one at low wattage for running then at high wattage to act as a brake light, whilst it also shows the brake warning light on the dash to let you know that you've lost a filament, even though it LOOKS like it's working properly.

Therefore, Yes, it will work......the version that does NOT have the IBS resister in it would trigger the brake warning even though it WAS working properly, because the IBS (probably stands for Intelligent Bulb system or something equally inane) 'thinks' that a bulb filament is broken as the LED draws so little power.

I'm just making educated guesses, but I'm 90% sure I'm right :thumb2

That was my understanding but the warning light comes on on the dash as soon as you touch the brakes. (1150GSA) The light works perfectly and is much better than the original bulb. It's just a matter of putting up with the light In the dash :thumb2

There's something wrong there then.....that's why there is a specific IBS version, to prevent exactly that from happening

There's no reason why it shouldn't work. Nippy has it listed under R1100GS even though the text says otherwise. Drop him an email to confirm. The one to avoid is the one without the resister. I understand you can fit either to a non ABS bike, but only the one with the resister to the IBS (Integral Braking System).

The electrics of it has been explained by Fanum.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I'll go for it. A bit more light to keep the car drivers on their toes (I wish) can't be a bad idea.

£70 for a tail led!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ring tail/brake bulbs are £1.95 for two in Wilko's. I know I'm a tight arsed 1100 rider but...

I got mine from NN in the last couple of months but now you have me wondering if it is the IBS version albeit that's the only one I can find on the website now :blast

I bought a set from 'techno' on this site several years ago - rear brake panel plus brake activated outriggers - similar to these on a GSA.

well worth the time and effort to fit and (in my opinion) far more effective overall than 'just' a brakelight panel.

The NN one is listed as £39, OK not cheap but for me it's not about saving money on bulbs, it's about fitting a brighter more effective rear light.

NN is away at the moment so I haven't had a reply from him. I'm going away on a trip to Europe in a week, so I wanted to get the LED light installed and tested on a few rides before I go away.

I ended up spending a few more pennies for one from Motorworks

It's a very good quality unit, well made and everything is fully sealed to prevent corrosion. I fitted it in 5 mins (probably could have done it faster), it works with the standard red rear light lense and its much brighter than the standard bulb.
