LED tail/brake light for 1150 GS/A

Hi there,

The idea of replacing the single bulb in my 1150's tail light seems like a good one.

One question: I don't doubt that LEDs can be pretty bright, these days, looking straight into the lens, but how effective is this product when viewing from off-centre??

Any 'views' ?

DB.

Good question. The LEDs I use are 110 degree viewing angle so that is very good considering most are 60...

Also as the white number plate lights face backwards a good amout of light bleeds through the lens at the side.

See this earlier post: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1394257&postcount=5
bear in mind this is my early prototype board and the production model is brighter.

Hi Rob, thanks for that. You seem to have covered my only reservation.

Must say from the photos your board looks good. Amazing how much 'up market' (read : dear) stuff don't use through plated boards. Good to see yours does.

Pls see in box..

Hi there,
do you have any plans to make the LED lights for those of us on KTM's
cheers

Well you can count me in for some, should you decide to go ahead. Thanks

endurance

AS a true test of the endurance of these lights i can certainly vouch for them! Mine have been fitted for a year and worked faultlessly for 30,000 miles or 1,000 riding hours! Top job!!! :thumb

LED LIGHT PANEL

Fitted mine today, brillant well made kit.Thanks.

Techo,

Im interested in a set of white for front and red for rear indicators. Are they ok on the R1200GS and can you tell me prices and how I should order them.

Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,
Only for the 1100/1150/850 etc with the older style indicators, not R1200GS.

Sorry

Vern told me these used to be made on here (before my time) as 'wide tails'.
They are the same idea and you get;

:sunshineA pair of boards in either RED for rear or WHITE for the front.
:sunshineSticky pads to fix them to the indicator housing.
:sunshineFour 4.8mm piggyback connectors to connect them to the tail and brake light.
:sunshineCable ties.
:sunshineA 1A diode in case you don't have my tail board above and want to use them as FOGs.
:sunshineSome spare sticky pads in case you want to take them out.
:sunshineSome PVC sleeving to protect the wires.
:sunshineFull instructions and support if you get in a pickle.
:sunshineDoes not interfere or upset ABS or IBS.
:sunshineFits all bikes with indicators like the 11XXGS/A.
:sunshineLooks better behind clear lenses, but OK through amber.
:sunshine£19.99 a pair including recorded delivery. International orders email me.

Hello Techno

I have a pair of the early Widetails in my 1150GS - but only as tail lights not stop. I like the idea of having both Stop and Tail lights in the indicator units. Also the rubber mounted LEDs in the Widetails make changing indicator bulbs quite a trauma!

Can I use your version with my Motorworks LED Stop/Tail light unit (which I must says doesn't look that different from yours)?

Cheers

Hi Richard.

My little panels simply piggy back onto the brake and tail connections of the standard rear light unit. The standard unit (and my LED panel) uses spade connectors so if your MW one does (and you haven't chopped off the OEM connectors) then you should be OK as I supply the piggy back connectors in the kit.

I haven't seen the MW version but as long as you can tap the tail and brake wires they will work fine.

Cheers

Evening Techno and thanks for your quick reply.

The MW unit plugs in place of the existing filament bulb in the Stop/Tail unit, i.e the OEM reflector remains in situ with the MW panel between that and the lens. It's basically a direct replacement for the filament bulb. Dead simple to install. I could send you a photo if you are interested (probably not before next week tho').

I installed the Widetail units with piggyback spade connectors into the back of the OEM reflector. Thus it sounds as though your indicator fitted Stop/Tail panels will be fine. I can always mess about with crimps as I presume that you supply copious notes as to which wire performs which function. I did find when installing the Widetails that it was easier to thread the wires through the indicator stalks before fitting the crimps.

Not being a subscriber I cannot PM you - as far as I can work out! What is the best way of contacting you regarding placing an order?

Cheers

Hmm..how to put my email here without attracting loads of spam..
Have a look in my profile if you can it is in there.

Yes instructions and crimps supplied. Sounds like they fit the same.

Hm, can't view your profile or mine! I must subscribe. In the short term would you risk sending an email to me? '[email protected]' I will reply from an address with a domain name of 'nildram', but not until this evening.

Cheers and thanks for your trouble

Will post pictures with the result.
