LED tail/brake light for 1150 GS/A

IBS

This might be a daft question but what is IBS :nenau

IBS is a way of detecting a tail light failure by monitoring the current through it. It is not unique to BMW's bikes though.

If there is no current through the filament, then the bulb has blown and in order for you to have some rearward light, the system then provides a reduced voltage (or limited current) through your brake filament to simulate a tail light.

As an LED panel uses much less power (and therefore less current) the fitting of such will cause the system to 'think' there is a blown bulb (if IBS is on the bike that is) and put some voltage through the brake circuit. This causes the LED panel to appear to be in brake mode all the time. To combat this extra resistance is used in parallel to the LED circuit to draw the extra current.

If you have a normal brake system, you don't need the extra resistance.

WHITE front LEDs available..

I have started to make these again now having found a reliable white LED to replace the ones I used to use before being discontinued.

There has been a lot of interest and requests for these so after some testing, they are available.

They are basically the same as they were before but much brighter, and come with a high an low intensity setting (like the rear ones) but generally they will be used in full brightness mode behind clear lenses (and low if you have amber lenses).

I have wired mine into the front pilot connector using a 6.3mm piggy back connector and that is what is supplied in the pack instead of the 4.8mm ones. You can connect it to any 12v switch source, but the side light is easiest to connect to.

Price is £19.99 including Recorded Delivery.

Do you have any pictures of these lit up?

I'll take a set of the white front then please Techno.

I can piggy back onto the front side light connection on a 2001 (non IBS) R1150GS then?

Let me know your PayPal email address and I'll send over payment.

Not sure about that, I imagine so as they generally get more complex connectors as they get older :)

Best have a look, but if they don't you can send them back. I am sure someone on here has bought some for thay model year.....anyone?

Have you got clear lenses?

Sent you a PM about payment,

Rob

Yes, that would be OK.

Not sure how you would connect it though. You could drill a small hole through the headlight back plate and piggy back in there save cutting any wires. I did that on my 1150GSA 05 when I fitted my HIDs, but I needed a bigger hole!

+1 for the regular tail / brake lights!

Ordered Tuesday, in Hong Kong Friday lunchtime and fitted the same evening!

Fantastic stuff!

Hi Techno, got some questions here.

I'd like to order the rear led light, together with the red ones for the rear indicators, and the white ones for the front indicators. Is this possible?

Don't know if my 1150 has IBS or not, it has ABS and is from 09/03.

Also, do you sell separate fog light thingies for the rear as well.

And specialy, how much is this gonna set me back? And can I pay using Paypal, or IBAN and BIC/SWIFT?

Stuff needs to be sended to Belgium.

Grtz, Philip!

P.S: Any of you guys know where to find a clear real ightcover, instead of the red one

Full set up..

That is no problem. I have them ready to ship.

It would probably be best to go for the IBS one just in case.

Not yet, but I am looking into options. You can get something from Hein Gericke here in the UK for £19.99 that would do the job. I am sure you can get the same in Belgium. Basically any LED high brightness fitting would do for the fog (running via my panel anyway)

And specialy, how much is this gonna set me back? And can I pay using Paypal, or IBAN and BIC/SWIFT?

The individual items are £45 for the tail light and £39.98 for the front and rear inserts. The total is £84.98 including postage for the UK. As you are not in the UK send me an email at rob_bot at hotmail dot com and we can discuss your options and possible discount/free postage :) Paypal is best for me.

You don't need a clear rear lens for the tail light as it works just as well with the red one. You do need clear lenses in the indicators though.

I know Rob, but I just like it, that's why i'm looking for one :D
Found one on eBay, but it's very expensive, seeing it's a total rear light unit. I just want the lens, that's all.

Thanks for the quick reply, will send an email one of these days ;)

Well I fitted my front ones today & am well pleased. I have orange indicator lenses and think that the way that the LEDs light up the front with the different colour to the other front lamps is very effective, especially if you bear in mind that when I turn an indicator on they are still very clearly directional despite the LEDs.

I shall be buying clear lenses one of these days but the price seems so excessive it'll not be for a while.

Top product, Techno, cheers!!

And here's a picture taken in the underground carp ark near work of the bike with the side-lights on (and so LEDs on, one indicator on so you can see how much brighter the indicator is than the LEDs but also that they stand out well (the other side). They'd obviously stand out better if I spent the 30 quid on a set of clear lenses but as that's extortionate, I shan't be doing so for the time being.
