Left/Right Nearside/Offside

OK, I know in the UK car world we have nearside and offside to avoid any confusion when talking about what bits fit where etc. When your talking about bike bits, what's the protocol? Left is looking at the front of the bike or sat on it? I ask cos I'm having a devil of a job getting the Tobinators to sit right and what appear to be simple instructions are rendered confusing if you don't know the above, nor what the author considers to be the 'sloping' bits.

I did do a search which brought back all sorts of ROSPA references!

Left hand side is the side that your left hand is on when riding

Nearside is always kerbside and is the same as LHS.

(Highside is something completely different )

Cheers Blackal - I've looked again and the face that must mate to the screen (on the vibration eliminator bit) is chamfered, as confirmed by the reluctance of the bolts to go in if you try to use the other face. Then I notice one of them is handily stamped with an 'L' Never one to ignore the obvious, I thought this musty be the left one. Problem. If it is the L is upside down when the chamfered face is mated to the screen!

Kerbside will be RHS when on the continent - and if bits are made in Germany (for example) and translation is not correct then can be problematic.

I have experienced it firsthand.

Hi Karl, yes I appreciate that thanks, hence reference to UK and nearside and offside. I've managed to fit them after much pondering and a bit of filing. I'm not convinced that the strains imposed on the screen wont lead eventually to fatigue cracks but we'll see. What convinced me to try and sort this was, when stretching my legs by standing up, just how quiet it is at reasonable speeds when you aren't behind the screen!

I might use a bit of bandwidth up by posting some pics and trying to describe what I think the problems are. Also, obviously, see what www.stopthebuffetiing.com say or recommend.

What convinced me to try and sort this was, when stretching my legs by standing up, just how quiet it is at reasonable speeds when you aren't behind the screen!

I found that too and ended up putting my GSA screen to the lowest setting (when the seat was low too). My head is in the breeze now, but at least I'm not deaf.
I'd be interested in hearing how you get on with the Tobinators
