left throttle cable route?

i cant get enough play in the left throttle cable, i have put a new one in but unsure of its route, should it go betwix frame and main electrics cable, or said cable and battery box...or any where else?
are there any pictures on here of the correct route...

Did you take the old one out before you installed the new one? Or did you put new one alongside the old one:augie
 
Fair point, the bike was rebuilt substantially before i got it. (reflected in the price!!) I did have problems with balancing and rattling initially, and the TB's have just been 'scrimaged' . The cable was getting trapped under the battery box so i cut some of that away to enable the cable to move to allow it to balance better.

This present issue is that the bike wont seem to stay in balance after a few miles. The left cable adjuster is screwed right in and i feel that the left outer should be shorter to enable the screw adjuster to have some slack. I have just got a new cable which unfortunatley seems a few mm longer than the old one. $%%^$

another thought is about the splitter box, should it be moved side/side to help take up the slack? me brain hurts.

Where did you buy the cables from ???
 
Cables

I too am a Motorworks cable customer £89.00 inc twist grip bit!) and have the same prob, came in a BMW parts bag so assume these are correct but left one does seem a bit tight. Got a carb tune to ballance all resonable but no quite right yet this appeasrs to be a real pain of a job.

where is that masked man..?....in the meantime i will have a go at rebuilding/bodging the original cable, do you think i should shorten the outer, lenghten the inner or some combination......?

I moved the "lock Nuts" underneath that gave me an extra 3-4mm to play with.
Maybe steptoe could do a workshop in the hand carpark pay him in beer ;)

I've just had a look at mine-
Left hand (near side) cable is routed between rear frame and wiring harness coming out about 1.5" to the right of lower nut (securing sub frame to engine). From my limited view, the cable appears to come straight out from the splitter box horizintally, It intrigues me that the original old cable has no play at the adjuster end as I would have thought that the inner cable would stretch rather than shrink with use. Watching this thread with interest- hope you get it sorted! :confused:
 
many thanks for the info chaps, and i will put the locknut underneath. i did try the cable as you have yours but the radius seems too tight and the friction seems to prevent the throttle from fully closing. i will resist hitting the locknut bracket with a hammer for the moment...

what i've done

again thanks for the info, and so far.....
BMW GB have never heard of the issue of the left cable being too long. they also dont suggest taking out all the slack from the splitter to the TB adjusters as suggested in an official manual that i have seen.
I have to route my left throttle cable directly out from under the battery box as it is too long. As an experiment I have shortened the outer of the old fecked cable by approx8mm and this would work, although on the new cable this would be tricky as the outer ferrul end pieces would not be happy coming off, although they did on the original. The inner cable is connected to its end 'bobs' by some future alien technology that would require a death star ion gun to seperate. Or maybe cut the end bobs off and drill out a hole and resolder in place on a new piece of workable cable.
The adjuster threads do not go all the way up the adjuster, so it would be best to leave them at least 3mm out from tight even with the locknut underneath the bracket. This is how i have done mine. The original issue was that it kept going out of balance, so far it is ok. I swapped the manometer over to check each was giving the same reading when i balanced it, and there was an issue. also the missing thread on the adjuster may have caused a problem. Also, i remembed the TFI thingy and turned that up a notch.....why did i ever sell the honda pf 50..
