After much (few seconds tops) thought on the question I have to say that I can see how one might be drawn to that comparison.
However, I don't really think so. Why? I here you ask. Because firstly the need for Mods to have all those mirrors was born out of their fear of them not wishing to fall prey to all the Rockers that might be bearing down on them from behind. And secondly, their misguided (some may say stupid) desire to be blinded by the light of car/lorry headlights behind them!
On the other hand I don't feel the need for "gazillions" of lights on the front of my P&J. I'd just like a little better vision at night and if that also helps with other motorists being able to see me then that's a bonus.
