Let there be LIGHT !!!

Some folk are predicting that LED will replace HID within two years. The only consistent issue in a number of articles I've read is beam throw on high beam with the LEDs lacking the penetration of HIDs. That of course is also affected by the quality of the lamp reflector/lens assembly, the high beam on an 1150GS was like a search light certainly better than the XT1200Z.

I expect LED will become the next standard but not as the replacement bulb type. Nothing wrong with the cyclops type deal but the pattern will never be 100 percent. It is definitely where I am heading when the bike finally gets here. When done at the manufacturing stage though, if they try it should go to the next level.
Course there is a big difference between £120 for a replacement kit to God knows how much for a GS or multistrada light if it screws up.

I find the stock halogens just about ok on my 1190. No intention of dicking around with "improvements".
Anyone coming from a hex head BMW with standard lamps should see the KTM kit as an improvement anyway.

I have to say Cookie having seen Arseys lamps running in France I am tempted to order the 1190 kit for mine. They're extremely bright!

I'm sure they are. I'm just saying my stock setup seems adequate for my current needs.

Well I installed the latest Cyclops KTM 1190 kit yesterday. The new one has dip and high beam replacement LED bulbs and a full plug and play kit. All you need to do it mount the new (cooler) resistors in the headlight bucket and drill a couple of small holes to rivet them in place.

Holy mother of god what a difference! The light output (The latest bulbs are 3200 lumens each) is astonishing with a much better beam spread etc. I can't imagine HID would be any better and I imagine these run a lot cooler.

Well worth £120. I bought mine direct from Cyclops in the US but Zen overland has them in stock if you don't get over to the states.

Used them in my 1290 SA with good results. Just a shame ktm made getting into them such a PITA. At least I shouldn't have to do that again.

Just to revive an old thread-the bulb is still going strong-never had any issues, heat or otherwise.

I fitted the 2800 lumens cyclops bulb (high beam) in my 990 adventure. i've now removed it. It isn't as bright as a night breaker and the fit was very very tight - in fact it was pressing hard against the subframe for the instruments.

Still running well in my 1190 with a good beam pattern and no issues after two years.
