Apart from using a sky hook does anyone have any advice on how to lift up my bike when it is laying flat on the ground. I have put the bike in gear but still cannot lift it on my own.

Halfa 1200.

1/ Get a good grip of the bar end nearest the floor with one hand and with the other hand gripping a part of the frame, somewhere just under the seat. Legs slightly apart with knees bent, back straight, lift using leg muscles.
2/ If this doesn't work, open petrol filler cap, strike a match and stand well back. Then phone your insurance company and tell them it burst into flames when you fell off. Wait for new bike to arrive from dealers. Job done.

N.B. Part 2 is a 'joke'

There's a YouTube video of how to "walk" your bike up. Supposedly a good technique on heavy bikes.

If you have not joy with that yourself, just pop into your local and bribe a couple of burley blokes to lend a hand with a couple of pints.

Personally, I just grab the grip closest to the ground with both hands and then haul the thing up (lifting with legs not back of course). The walking backwards thing is a bit of a faff IMHO.

Ignore the one done using a full dresser harley.......that doesn't work with a 'flat' bike.

Back towards the bike/face away . Lower yourself down straight backed. Reach behind and hold the bar end and/or other part with a solid hand grip. Then stand up.

Or, start the engine, pull the bar ends nearest the floor on full lock towards the rear of the bike. Force the bike into a position so the rear wheel is touching the ground... Rev the engine and let the clutch out in short bursts and the bike should push itself upright*

* (if you're a big fairy, the nervous type, a c*nt or never done a hard days graft don't try this or you'll end up crying at the side of the road waiting for help to arrive) .

Frightening.

I use the"back against the seat" method. Make sure the side stand is out and it's in first.

Keep kicking it until it gives in and gets up, it's how my wife gets me to do the dishes and it works!!!

You should tell her that there are more effective ways of doing it.... ;)

Over 24 hours since you posted and no update, is it still on the ground? did you switch the engine off? Are you lying in a hospital bed with reptured hernia?

hahahahahaha I too am on the edge of my seat waiting for a response!!!!!!!

Better to do this with you
U facing away from bike, then simple walk backwards with straight back and bike will come up.

....Don't go telling that to any 1200 owners FFS!! They'll just trip over their bikes walking backwards :D

Bike is now vertical thanks to a neighbour two doors down, unfortunately I have a smashed screen and my next door neighbours car has a large gouge down the drivers door and dents due to the handguard sliding down it as the bike fell. Lucky the car was there or I could have had more damage to my bike.

Thanks Halfa, i hope both repair bills aren't too expensive......
