hello yall,

i want to lift the front wheel of my Xmoto off the ground to get the wheel out, i have a rear paddock stand so can support the rear.

how would you guys recommend i do it, or how do you do it?

i dont have the money right now to shell out on a front stand.

A pile of house bricks under the bash plate and more house bricks on the rear of the seat ...?

kids swing in the garden, couple of ratchet straps off the handle bars. It's a make shift A frame.

lay it on it's side.... on the lawn....

best of luck....

Beer crate, couple of bibles for extra height, and a mate to help lift the front while you slide it under.

Drink beer that came with the crate before, during and after.

Or do it yourself. Push the bike over on it's sidestand, and keep pushing (you might want to put it in gear and grab the front brake as you push, until the desired end of the bike is off the ground.

then kick said beer crate underneath.

If you need an extra couple of inches, put a brick/lump of wood/small child under the sidestand before you push against it.

This is a well practised trick of mine- only until the day i can finally afford a fancy hydraulic lift...

I've used 2 methods on xl600

Chock behind rear wheel, attach rope to rear rack, use a strong hook in the wall behind and on the left of the bike and attach the rope, use a pulley to pull the rope tighter, as you shorten the rope the front end lifts off the ground, had it like that for 2 days doing the head bearings as I needed the bars and yoke off. Make sure you're proficient in knots and mechanical stresses tho to ensure it's secure.

If you don't need the bars off the bike, you can attach the rope to the garage roof beams (as with the swing idea earlier) and pulley it up and tie it securely (needed a hand with this method as I only had one pulley hence no mechanical advantage.

Hope these help.

This is the method I used to change the fork seals on my old Honda 400 (NC27) and it is far cheaper than buying one of of those fancy front stands but then again I once ground the valves on an Australian 4.1 liter straight six Ford Falcon by inverting the jack and using it to compress the valve springs.

thanks for all the ideas guys but i now have it all sorted. i bought a £10 scissor jack and have mounted a wooded block on the top so i can lift the front from the front (lower) engine mounts whilst the bike is up on the rear stand. i can now take both wheels out to get new tyres etc. i have also bolted the scissor jack to a 1.5inch thick peice plywood so it will give it extra support and stop the jack from tipping over (even though when i tried it without the ply it was pretty sturdy, just wanted the extra comfort) works a treat and all for £10.
