Does anyone have an HID light conversion on their adventure and would you recommend this as an alternative to the usual light bar, fogs, spots autoswitch route taking into consideration that the dipped beam on my ADV is permanently on.

I've got PIAA extreme white bulbs in my adv, which are the same electical load as standard, however they give out a hell of a lot better light, equivalent of 130w according to the blurb, certainly makes driving at night a lot safer, and the tin box tw^ts see you coming too. they were from demon tweeks and I think were around £30 for a pair.

I have a Xenon conversion on the Dipped beam.......

I've used it a couple/few times locally but last Wednesday travelled 200 miles in the dark up the M74/A9etc. to Perth........

Amazing spread of light, so much so that the Main Beam (a Phillips Blue Vision bulb) made little difference to the light spread given off by the Dipped HID!

If you don't want to add extra lights to the bike, go for the HID, it's the danglies.......;)

Forgot to mention, it uses less power than standard setup too :thumb

Which kit did ya use and where was it from?

Oh........and how easy was it to fit? Oil top-ups and tyre pressure fall into the "Advanced" category for me!

It was a Panasonic/Phillips system from this guy,... http://www.nippynormans.com/Home.asp

I did a bit of a 'Spiel' here on BMW Riders Scotland with photos when I fit the kit..... http://www.bmwridersscotland.com/bulletinboards/viewtopic.php?t=70

It really wasn't difficult, just take your time and it'll come together without any drama's...;)

HID v Many bulbs..

Black Dragon, I was in the same sort of position.. i found the poor lighting on the GS is one and only major draw back..

I looked at the HID option.. but with the main easy replacement unit from Touratech it was pricy.

I wanted to suppliment both main and dip beam. As neither was great. The cots of HID on main and dip was too much.

So in the end i went for a multi light setup.
The advantages i have found are :
1. Suppliments both Dip and Main Beam
2. Multi Bulbs; If one bulb blows, only partial reduction in light.
3. Light Spread and depth is excellent
4. Fog lights for bad weather

The only down side i can see, is the looks if you dont like them.,,

I think the HID is great.. cirtainly awsome light.., i am happy with my setup though. Final costs for me.. workedout about £50 cheaper than the HID.
Details are here : LINK

ta for the replies,
decisions, decisions ! I like the idea of the un-cluttered look ! of the HID but Rocks set up of micro de and ff75s certainly look the business. price of the two systems are comparable so more thought I reckon.
ta again for replies :coold

Trying before buying..

I wonder if there is any one in your part of the world who has the HID.. so you can have a look, and see what its really like.

I have heard its impressively bright. I know my setup is very bright and i have just got standard bulbs in the additional lights, havent yet got the 50% brighter ones, as i dont really need them.

I was luckily enought to have a look at a GS with the TT fog lights on it, which are the same as the Micro DE's.

Well which ever way you go, i hope it does what you want..

:D

Gonna get a HID............

Cheers CC

Spoken to Norman himself and he's adapting the 1150 kit for the 1200 in the next week or two. Fitting will be essentially the same and your guide on the Scotland site - well, what can I say? Short of popping down to Essex and fitting it for me, there's not much more you could do!

I just like the idea of being sooooooooo much more visible on my London commute.

I'll let you know how it goes...............:thumb

adventure OE fogs, Philips blue vision on dip (permenantly on) with yellow filter and TT HID main beam conversion works for me.
I prefer OE look, no made up brackets etc etc.

Where can you get the Adventure OE fogs from and how much are they, please? Ideally in London.

Just keep an eye out on the road....they're so fragile they're always the first thing to break off
