trojan muldrop 10006 . while using limewire p2p network , i seem to have been infected with this bugger . i only noticed it when my hard drive capacity went down to only 8 % free space left ! . AVG cannot find it ! , so how do i get rid of it ? . any ideas . i am running vista home premium .

I just Googled limewire trojan. Lots of info on how to remove :thumb You're not alone in getting the virus!

I suggest completely dumping Limewire and use a torrent client. Much better.

1. Install torrent client. Lots around, just Google "torrent". I use utorrent which downloads in about a minute, has a good interface and works well.

2. Use sites such as Pirate Bay, TorrentSpy and Torrentz to find the torrent files you want. These download in seconds.

3. Run the torrent file, utorrent opens and files download.

I have had far less problems with viruses etc. with torrents than I had with Limeware and other file sharing systems but it is still a case of being careful. I always virus check the, normally compressed, downloaded file and then check it again after extracting it.

This is a good bit of advice :bow:thumb

I am trying it out now and it seems to be going well. You can get the full albums instead of scabbing about trying to find tracks. You can also download individual tracks aswell

It quietly runs away in the background without slowing anything down and notifies when the download is complete. The process does take a wee while but the quality seems to be pretty good.

Bad news is that I'm going to have to get a bigger hard drive at this rate :D :thumb :augie

Some extra info.

Some archives are compressed into one file but others are just a folder with all the files you need. When downloading folders uTorrent shows each file separately with the option to give them a priority or not download them at all. Files that are "stand alone" e.g. text files, MP3, video, etc. can be opened as soon as that part of the whole has downloaded.

I normally give a priority to information files as sometimes reading them results in not wanting the download. Also big archives can be split over two computers to speed things up. I once downloaded a 23 Gbyte folder with hundreds of files in it. I set it up on two computers with each downloading half the files.

If you've been hit with a Trojan beware...

There is no guarantee it can be removed, even using the 'official removal tools', also it may be rootkit installed in which case there may be items installed onto your machine that are undetectable and are hidden from the OS.

The only sure way of getting back to a clean machine, is to restore (if you have that option) or re-build.

:type

Save yourself the hassle next time..

Use a restore program like Symantec Ghost or similar, backup and restore in minutes not hours !:clap
