Lithium Battery

I have asked my dealer to get me a 1250 GSA TE. He has one on the shop floor but it has a Lithium battery. My ATAS has a Lithium battery and a replacement costs 5 times as much as a std battery. So I am reluctant to go Lithium again. Would I need a special charger for Li battery on the GSA ? and finally can you replace Li battery with normal if it gives problems.
 
I will be going for Lithium when my oem battery fails . 80% weight saving is a huge attraction for me. I am not concerned about the negatives re troubles at/around freezing point, because I do not ride in winter. In any case I’ve read that there are techniques to ‘warm’ the battery should temperature be an issue .

There’s nothing wrong with a lithium battery. And a lot right. Lighter better cranking will hold charge much longer and no you don’t need a special charger. Just a ordinary old fashioned 12 volt will do. No smart recovery types as they can fry the lithium battery. Think about it. What makes the charging system on the bike special when you fit a lithium battery? JJH

OMG as if 2kg is going to make that much difference on a 250kG dry, tank lol :D

Dont lnow where you get your costs from , but Lithium vs gel are pretty much on a par with each other £60 -120 AGM £80- 140 lithium

and its over 5 years , so trifling really

And the standard battery will last 3 to 4 years, but the Lithium will last twice that.
 
A very good friend of mine was about to buy a 2021 Honda Africa Twin until he found out a replacement Lithium battery was approx £500 due to it being an oddball size and sourced from Honda. So he bought a Tiger instead.

Same as post 2 and battery fails are not so often, BMW normally very good warranty with battery fail, and for weight watchers, many English pies and ale less helps.

My thinking exactly. And 2 years later I've never looked back.

As for weight saving. Surely every bit counts?

So what's the standard weight of oem ?. Lithium is 1.1kg. I thought the saving was more than 2kg. Please correct me if I am wrong
 
People spend 2,000 on a aftermarket exhaust to save 2or 3 kilograms. Not me. JJH
