Anyone fitted a lithium Ion Battery to a liquid cooled GS ?

would welcome some feed back, pros and cons.

Have killed my standard battery....my fault so need to replace it and thought the weight saving may be worth the extra cost.

Yep. No issues. Requires a correct battery charger/tender. LiFePo4 batteries hold their charge better than normal AGMs. It's lighter in weight - although that's like saying a battleship is lighter because it is carrying one less person...

I think the only thing to worry about is that Lith batteries have a significantly degraded performance in very cold conditions - just when you need more performance in fact.

How did you kill the battery? Just out of interest. If I ever need to buy a battery it will be a lithium one. I've read up on them and my mind is made up. A lot of people talk of a specific charger but I cannot see why. One of the advantages of lithium is that they hold a charge for a much longer time than lead acid and I don't use a charger on my bike as it's used mostly every day. I change my bike every 2 to 3 years and never need to replace a battery. JJH

Yes I did and bizarrely it stopped the automatic feature of the low beam working with the driving light from working. The low beam stayed on all the time until I put the standard battery back in

JJH, I went away for 2 weeks and left it on a charger and it seems the charger was faulty and did not shut down when fully charged and has "boiled" the battery . It is a smart charger but very old , I thought they would be fail safe and just turn off in a malfunction.

For whatever reason, this is a fairly common failure point on battery chargers - has happened to me as well.

Bit of a worry I always leave my optimate on when the bike is left for any amount of time. Makes you wonder if it could have heated up enough to cause a fire. I do remove the battery from the bike so the Canbus system doesn't stop it charging.

Anyway think I will give a Lithium battery a try as I clearly need anew charger as well. Thank for your comments.

I've left my bike for 3 weeks without disconnecting the battery and no charger. Bike starts no problem. I'm not a fan of long term connecting to chargers. In my opinion they do more harm than good. JJH
