My F700 has languished in a container for the last 18 months:( and consequently the battery is knacked. We've moved so the bike's out at last :clap:clap:clap but i need a new battery. I was going for the Motobatt due to the 4 contacts:thumb BUT I've been beguiled by the incredible weightlessness of lithium ion batteries! I've searched on here but can't find much in the way of comments. Anybody using one? Advice welcome!

Hi Katy
No I have not used one either, but given it a great deal of thought over the last twelve months.
FOR - light weight
AGAINST - catch fire on airplanes (no evidence yet of a bike fire mind!), Charging profile of the 800 alternator designed for an AGM battery hence it eats ordinary lead acid, Price
I went with a Motobatt for £60
HTH.
Regards.

Thanks Bern, I think it's the way I'll end up going.:thumb

I think Lithium ion batteries are great for applications where weight is a primary concern(ie race bikes) but on a reasonably heavy bike i wouldn,t bother also you may need to think about using a different battery charger too that is compatible. As they are smaller batteries you end up having a plastic spacer to take up the gap(which is supplied with them)

In Ireland one of the wholesalers was telling that he cant sell the ones he has as the end of life recycling is an issue. Also with reference to fires, a few golf clubs here wont allow them to be left on charge after one set a change room on fire.

I havt no experience with these battery's save for what I've read. I will be replacing my battery with one of them because they are smaller and you can utilise the saved space for storage somthing that is sadly lacking on a gs. JJH

ive got one on my ducati, weighs naff all, its never let me down and never been on a maintainer, it was also cheap, JMC brand

I have a Lithium battery on my F800GS and my KTM 690 Enduro

No problems

Thanks karlp, but too late!!!! Ordered 2 of the Motobatt MBYZ16H yesterday for £56 each:thumb2. I'm sure they'll be fine and I like the 4 terminal idea - the lithium must remain a fancy only;).
