How do you do this as it will not auto run!

That's what I thought! I was hoping someone was about to tell us otherwise as I still do my Garmin fettling on a old windows laptop.

Early maps arn't compatible you can convert them with software on a pc
then put them on a flash-drive or sd card then load them to the mac
the mac has to have software to convert the files as well for road trip
its bit of a faf but works ok

go on garmin site all instructions used to be there
all new maps work on mac

Just spent a few hours getting the SP2820 to work with my Mac. Garmin does not make it easy to be a law abiding customer. (And again, I gave up... As my SP is previously registered on an account they no longer acknowledges, it seems I cannot buy upgraded maps.)

You need to install 4 sw packages, all available for free on Garmin´s website:

- BaseCamp (this is "the new MapSource")
- MapManager
- MapInstall
- POI Loader

Should be smooth from here, if you don´t get slapped by their copy protection scheme. But a quick google search should lead you to the relevant torrent.

I'd already tried derbymeg's solution but in my case it wouldn't work. It only converts maps that are too old to be mac - compatible. Because mine are from 2011 they were, so the Map convert solution just bypasses these, and they are the ones I want.

Looks like the only way is to buy an update. Let's see if the January sales bring any particularly good bargains!

As I said in the other thread, City Nav lifetime update for £50 from Handtec, regular Garmin price is £75 last time I looked. Don't think you're going to get much cheaper.
