Does anyone know the location of the TPMS sensor module (not the sensors in the wheels!!)?
As I search for my fault, I'm testing all and any idea I have!

Bike: 2011 twin cam adventure

Thanks, and happy Christmas to everyone ☺️

Ok. Found a shot. As I thought, nothing else under the seat cowl except the alarm unit - unless the tpms receiver module is included in there, it must be somewhere else on my bike?

Blue straps are just to gently keep the cables from fouling the U lock

Alarm unit talks to the wheel sensors, it also has two CR123A Lithium cells inside it that need replacing at roughly five yearly intervals.
I changed them recently, when I fitted the PDM unit (thought I'd do it while I was there)

It’s the alarm unit.

Does both.
That is interesting! thanks!

Looks like I'll have to get that cowling off again 🤬

The reason I'm asking about this is because I had completely forgotten that early August, when I fitted new tyres, I also fitted new sensors (the Schrader versions) because it was losing contact with the front sensor frequently. I blamed the Chinese copies I had fitted, though I thought they were fine! It was losing contact almost every time I mounted the kerb to get my bike to the back of my place. So despite doing it gently, the bump was sufficient.

Fast forward to this recent problem. When I reached the UK after leaving Metz, I got the yellow warning triangle on the dash as I rode up there M20. It had lost contact with both sensors. I stopped. Waited a few seconds (60) then switched on again. All seemed good. But it returned after another 30-40 miles.

So...I am wondering if my 'shorting' issue is connected with this circuit 🤷🏻

Might be.

I installed the alarm unit back in 2012 when I bought my GSA as used. That is when I discovered it also includes the TPMS circuitry (I think they share antennas) and made a mental note then to install TPMS on my wheels (feat achieved this year, as you remember :D :D :D ).

I take note of what Puk says here:

I never replaced mine.
My alarm works, but goes to sleep (ie: can be disabled only via ignition key) very early. Maybe it's that.

It's really useful to know they are a combined unit. You might be right too about the antenna either being shared or just because if it's location, it's a good place to have it.

The batteries were replaced just recently (October).

There might a connection to my current problem or it's something else going wrong! But the front is vulnerable to water spray and the sensor being lost due to a bump up the kerb may point to something up with that front circuit or it's all just a red herring. Either way I have to check. The immobiliser is one of the things listed when the virtual fuse came in (see pic attached) so just maybe the is a connection 🤷🏻

I have a 09 GS with 90k on the clock it has TPMS and I have never replaced any batteries.

Just a thought, but I have a suspicion the Canbus might need a 'terminator' in the wiring to the alarm such as a resistor with a known value or similar, unless the alarm unit has one built in (seeing as it is the last item on the wiring loom)?

Might be worth checking this out, though I haven't owned a Hexhead for a while now and may be talking compete bollocks.

In the sensors, maybe... But I can't see the alarm batteries lasting so long, I mean if you actually use the alarm...

My bike doesn't have an alarm so no batteries to replace. But the TPMS module is in the same housing as the alarm would be.

there is a budget TPMS only box and that needs the canbus termination thing (not expensive), if you fit the alarm, both the old simple box and canbus terminator come off the bike - all mounted in the same place above the rear wheel

BMW shipped a lot of bikes with the RDC present in the same enclosure as the DWA even if the bike was specified with only the DWA option. In that case the RDC can be activated using the Motoscan app (and perhaps the GS-911).
