Locking or not locking fuel filler flap

Dont suppose anyone can do me a short video with the FFF open open & then lock the bike remove the key and wait?

I want to see what the mech does when the unlocked window times out and then when the bike is unlocked

and then started ;)

You may be right,

Ive just been out, and the fff opns with the bike running, it shouldnt

I need to have a look at how the mech works to understand it

I guess the locking pin is to stop the latch being depressed, but to do that the bar needs to move,

i think its the bar not moving, trouble is i dont want to be playing round with the fff on a hot day.

I'll havea look when it gets cooler, if not its off to the dealers

Sounds like a similar problem to mine then.

The first time it happened to me was while touring in Spain and I had to ride about 100 miles with only the tank bag holding it down and the smell of petrol vapour wafting over me!

Mine wouldn't unlock at a service station in France last year. Used a T25 Torx to open it, WD40 seemed to get it to working correctly again but a few weeks after I returned home it failed again so complete assembly replaced under warranty. This was last October, been ok since. Touch Wood!

Sorry just re-read your original post. Didn't read it properly first time. I replied thinking that you couldn't open the flap:blast

seems post 14 and Delboy did the same

No i understood that after it had been opened it would not lock again. Despite taking fob out of range. It should lock itself after a certain time.

Ok so i've gone out and tried my one, and here are the results. Take key fob within range and switch on ign, switch off again and open the the FFC then close it and take fob out of range of bike (check by pushing keyless button and see if red light on bottom left of screen flashes, if it flashes then key fob is out of range) I put a stopwatch on it, and it locked itself within just under three minutes. Hope that helps.

Heres what i get

Pic 1

Ignition on - FFF wont close

Pic 2

Ignition off - FFF wont close

Pic 3

Ignition cycled mech can be moved to let pin pop up - FFF can be closed

With the FFF closed

i can run through all of the permutations with the key no where near the bike and the red tell tale flashing

ans i can open the FFF every option bike running - bike not running bike not running key nowhere near

Im thinking dealer needs to replace the whole thing as its obviously not working as it should. Incidentally after reading a post on here i removed the Givi tank ring and sold it and the Givi tankbag. I bought a BNIB BMW 7 litre tankbag for the low price of £65 and thats what i will be using. Not quite as convenient but hey ho, its all part of the journey.

What was the thrust of that post you refer to. Although this is the 3rd GSA my Givi ring and bag have been attached to I cant help thing that there is some strain around the filler cap area. Ive noticed that BF17 ring just digs into the paintwork when tightened.

Going to check mine opens as I have just fitted Givi tanklock

IIRC it was that they thought that the tankring had been tightened too tightly down and that was what was jamming the lock mechanism somehow. So rather than have any problems with my one, i decided to change, although i hadn't made the bolts too tight, in fact i think they were too slack but i didnt want to tighten them up any more just in case.
