Has anyone got any tips for removing Loctite from a thread?

I've just been to several tool/bearing suppliers and nobody seemed to have anything that'd easliy remove Loctite.

thanks.

Heat gun and wire brush... or better still if you can run a tap and die will also clean up.

Thanks.

I've got to admit I thought there'd be something by Loctite that would simply soften the threadlock - fool me.

The threadlock in question is Loctite 2701 [AKA Green Concrete]. To anyone using 2701 to secure bevelbox/swingarm pivots I would suggest using only a drop.

I think Andy Malton suggested using only a medium strenght loctite to retain these pivots upon reassembly. I'm thinking that may have been sound advice.

I've got the lefthand pivot boiling on the stove nicely. It's the 2701 in the swingarm thread that's the problem.

thread lock

Russ,
get yourself out to the shed and knock one of these up,I just used a cheap philips screwdriver and works a treat for the swingarm threads as it is hard to get in there, even makes mincemeat of the 2701:D

Loctite Remover -Yes!

I usually use cellulose thinners or nail varnish remover (no comments please!!) to remove Loctite - especially from "delicate" areas which need to be clean for re-torquing but could be damaged by scribers etc, or tap and die availability are doubtful - eg. threads for paralever knuckle bearing pins etc.

Cheers...............Grizzly
