London to Asia

matey the OP... says in post one "no negative posts!"

I think, if he's got no job, no place to live in 2 months and is doing nowt else for the rest of his life. 3 months spent trying and having a go, would be more than enough. So anyone who's looking at it from a goal driven POV maybe missing the bigger picture by saying what can or can't be done. Your not actually help the poor bloke...:blast

If all he wants is to get on the bike and disappear... he should do that he might not even end up heading east....:blast plenty of other directions on a compass... which sooner or later end up in SE Asia

Perhaps it's not the destination but the journey we should be looking at from his perspective... after all for some it's not about ticking boxes it's about having a go and if where it takes you is better than where your currently at. what's the harm...

I say again if it's his idea then he should have a go....:augie and anyone who says can't be done should sling their hooks.

At the end of the day I just want to read the ride report and see the picture cos it'll be cool....:thumb2

No one has said it can't be done. A few of us have advised what he can do to stack the odds in his favour...

If you spent as much time organising your race budget fund raising as you have making the comments on this post you will be able to run a team of 4 bikes...

Have another drink Carl... You get better the later the hour and the more you consume !! :thumb2

unfortunatley or fortunatley as it might be for some I'm going to work...:thumb2

11 to your 12 I believe, your stiffling laughter and belittling a bloke who's down on his luck, with what I assume is inside knowledge. While I'm saying have a go... it might not work out how you've planned it but have a go anyway or take another way... if the goal ia SE asia then perhaps fly it, or head west... sooner or later once you've gone a long way west... you'll be in the east....which might be your goal..

Whether you go to work or bed I'm bored...

I've given my advice. I've offered constructive advice as best I can and I have better things to do than spend a disproportionate amount of my time trading posts with you...

Nothing said in the last posts help the op.

I've written to a moderator to offer him my phone and email details as he is a non subscriber. I am that prepared to help him...

There is no more that I can do... So if you want the last word Carl - go ahead. But try and make it one that helps the op...

Seems to be a lot of advise from folk who've not actually done it:augie:D

Cue the trumpet blown by oneself. :shout (a shame for one with credentials such as yours)

Just because someone hasn't done something Mr Timogre, it by no means implies that they are unversed on said subject.

Oh...I might have offered one bit of advise which was put the thing on a plane and have it shipped. Much less hassle....:thumb2

No, you told the bugger to wing it, and drive back to Berlin if neccesary to get a visa... (sound advice, if ever I'd heard) maybe there's a reason for the username.. :augie

Whilst in Cambodia with Camboenduro in February, I met two Brothers who had ridden from the UK on their way to Australia. They were on an Africa Twin and a KTM 640 Adventure. They'd found it straightforward, the main problem was waiting for spares for the bikes which on occasions had taken 3 weeks. So long as you dont have to crack on its possible with some planning. Their bikes looked Huge next to our XR 250's ,but they were so chilled out and looking forward to doing a bit of building work in Oz to finance the trip back. They had little hassle , loved Iran and India ,though Pakistan had been a bit hairy. My advice is GO Do It !! You may not get the time again. There is no better way to see the world than from a Motorcycle!!:thumb2

There in lies the secret - with a bit of planning and without having to crack on...

Good advice but I believe Iran, India and Pakistan all need Visas... Easy to obtain with an investment of time - but they can't be avoided as he said he hoped to in the OP...

And that's the advice the OP needs to heed - adjust your time frame from the month he originally stated he was going to take... Do some planning before you go rather than chancing your arm and, consequently, the odds of success improve accordingly...

It's not blowing my own trumpet at all, it's letting folk know that travelling through Central Asia is a fairly complicated process as anyone who's either done it or researched will tell you.

Whether your name's Austin Vince, Tiff or Uncle Bully, they all have to get much of this paperwork sorted before they go (not all, as I've said).....I made my comments in order to help since it seemed to me there were many unversed suggestions being made.

It's seems you were on a roll during the early hours with three critical posts within minutes.....What's up, did you really believe the Lib Dems were going to win?:D

It's also a shame that many trips fall at the first post due to argumentative characters.......as we've already seen elsewhere in this thread:blast

going east

been reading this with interest. i too am leaving my job and heading out. consequently, i have plenty of time to be away, but no budget worth talking about. in addition, i don't have the liberty of that srace has of taking a year to peruse maps and plan...and nor is that my style, but it's horses for courses. budget and time to plan has meant that i can't do the silk road and stan's, which i'd very much love to do. so, i'm going to head out east through countries that don't need carnets. the biggest headache is russia, as i'll be in and out of there several times, so have had to get david from stantours to supply me with an LOI (hat tip to timolgra). i'll use travcour to get me the visa as i'm stuck in ireland. i'm going to spend a week in london getting visas for kaz and mongolia, which the embassies have told me will each be a two day turnaround. So, if you're based in London, i reckon you can be ready to go within a month no problem. get your insurance, int drivers permit, visas, pack, and go! oisin took two months to plan his and do the necessary, mine will be something the same. leave ireland after the horizons unlimited gig and then leave london on the 20th june for calais. maybe see you on the road??? :bounce1:JB
