long hugger bolt in diff?

That silver stuff is probably the bits of your casing mashed up into fine pieces. It certainly looks like any large chunks are now very small.
Im not sure why you would want to get the casing repaired when you could use a small copper washer or a dowty seal and tighten up the splash guard with the correct length bolt. But if you are concerned as to the potential damage done to the inner workings then for your own piece of mind I would send it to Mikeyboy for him to play with.

I would use a low cost gear oil for 500 miles and repeat. If the oil runs clear on the second change just carry on with a high spec oil.
Mike does a great rebuild service but as this is contaminated you might prefer a low miles used FD unit.

I'm not bothered about repairing the damage to the diff casing i just wanted to make sure that there wasn't any big bits of metal floating around in there that could cause future damage. After dropping the oil and looking at the colour i'm now convinced that theres no bits left in there! :) I've filled the diff up with syntrax 75/140 and i'll drop it again in 500 miles and check the colour again
