Well, managed to lose my key on way home from work , complicated by the fact I am working away from home at the moment !

Anyone else managed to lose their Key ? How much grief am In for ??

Well as I'm clairvoyant, and haven't go a scooby whether you have keyed or keyless

I will have a wild guess

£150 for a blank key blade and £50 to code the transponder

£500 for a fob and £300 to code it

Better get a torch and start looking ;)

Assuming you're keyless and you don't have a spare fob with you it'll probably need recovery to a main dealer (BMW assist?) There they should be able to program a new fob and delete the old one from the ECU. Do you have either a 2nd fob or a plastic key at home as they may need that to be able to program the new fob. Might be worth seeing if you have key cover on your house contents insurance. Good luck

Thanks chaps , on the traditional key or keyless point . I thought all the 1300 gs/gsa were keyless ?

Going by the costs its not as bad as i thought just getting it back to a dealer will be the pain assist were useless last night .

260 is what I was told by BMW as well. I wanted a spare just in case but decided against it in the end for that price

Why not try a mobile indy lock specialist? I had to get a new remote key fob for my dad's VW camper van when mother lost her set of keys (no idea why she insisted on having a set as they were joined at the hip and she didn't drive) and he was lot cheaper than the price the main stealer quoted. He turned up, cut the key, programmed the new remote and removed the lost one from the ECU.

Haven't you got the emergency plastic key?. That will let you start and ride the bike fine.
Put it under the seat on the receiver ring on top of the battery. May even work just holding on top of the seat.

I had the same thought when I asked about a spare key for my 1250 (I dont know if they are the same key/system on a 1300) I ended up purchasing a spare plastic key with chip to start the keyless system (£37.34) and a spare metal key (£21.34) for panniers, toolbox etc which I didnt think the plastic key would be strong enough to open. just needed to show my V5 at the local Motorrad dealer. both delivered to my home within 10 days.

Not with me working away from home

when I had my R1200RS with keyless, I clipped the plastic key on a safety pin inside the knee armour pocket of my Rukka trousers.

you are most likely to need a spare key when up an Alp or down a gorge on a trip away

You've lost me :-) . Thought you lost the key on your way home from work & you were talking about getting assist to take the bike to your dealer.
If you're working away from home just wait till you get home and then use the emergency key. Or phone your dealer and they should be able to get another key ordered from BMW using info on their records for you to collect.
Not sure they'll actually need the bike to programme the key but could be wrong.
They wil need proof of ownership either way.

I purchased a spare key from my BMW Motorrad dealer for my R1300GS Adventure when I got the bike.
It cost about £200 with a bit of discount.

Took about a week to arrive from Germany. Needed to show the dealer my log book, even though I purchased the bike new from them. The key is already cut.

All you have to do is remove the riders seat and put the key next to the round aerial and turn the ignition on.
