Low Emission Zones (LEZ) in Spain.

At the risk of reopening an argument, does anyone have any more recent information on LEZs in Spain.

From what I can see there are now many and as a foreigner you can't get a sticker, but there does seem to be a suggestion that you can register to avoid getting an automated anpr fine.

So far, I've registered here: https://www.amb.cat/en/web/mobilitat/mobilitat-sostenible/zbe and had it approved as this seems to be linked from all of the ZBE schemes on the Spain govt website, but pretty sure that this just covers Barcelona now it's been accepted.

Some sites say that foreign vehicles don't need to worry about it, others say that you have to register but can't get a sticker. I've even seen sites from the EU saying that no-one needs a sticker any more.

TL;DR - there's no consistent information anywhere and I can't tell if it's because they haven't got round to doing anything, or, spanish websites don't translate very well.

I don't fancy dozens of fines in the post from my holiday so any info welcome!

that's because there is no consistency across the country

I am off to Spain in May/June.

I arrive in Santander, which has told the Madrid government to go fuck themselves. Bilbao's zone is tiny.

I will be in Pamplona. Like Bilbao, the zone is small and Hotel Yoldi is outside that area.

I will be in Salamanca and google says they are not implementing any restrictions until 2029

I will be in Cordoba and the city centre has restrictions https://www.andalucia.com/cities/cordoba/low-emission-zone
"Cordoba’s Low Emission Zone (ZBE) was introduced on 18 February 2023 and covers most of the city’s historic centre. It is effective all day, every day. Only vehicles with 0 and Eco stickers can enter, as well as residents, hotel guests, vehicles with PMR (disabled) permits, delivery drivers etc"

The 0 and Eco badges are only given to electric, hybrid or LNG/LPG vehicles. No diesel or petrol allowed.

In summary, unlike the national scheme in France, it is a clusterfuck as Madrid has left it to the regions to make it up as they go along. Santander, heavily reliant on tourists accessing a ferry that berths in the city centre, often full of ancient Jaguars and Nortons, would find it impossible to implement a scheme that includes tourists.

If you want to know what applies where, all you can do is find out if your destination is on the list and try to work out if it applies. They are not making it easy and I have been largely reliant on 3rd party websites rather than official ones for my own trip.

As I will be using a Hotel Centro's car park, I am exempt in Cordoba.
