lowered pegs

hello

I’m using Miguel pegs…. the only problem I can see is that they are lower but also forwarded. I had also to change the gear lever to be able to drive with boots

I like pegs that are moved down and backwards, like this:

Mike if yer get a set off a r65 road bike they will fit and drop about 1 1/2 as I remember they are rubbered pags so not so good offroad though
last pair I got were £10 for the pair from motoworks

I will take a picture tomorra if yer want to see um
£150 quid cheaper than toratwerp but if yerv got big feet yer may have to cut and shorten the gearlever an inch

Feeling a bit cramped now so suggestions would be appreciated. Anyone used Migsels ?
Cheers
MIke

I needed to fit lower pegs on Jill's 100gs, as a combination of a lowered seat and shorter legs make it very difficult to reach the gear lever (which can't be raised enough within it's adjustment range).

Being a bit of a tight-wad there was no way I was going to buy low pegs that needed the gear lever changing at the same time. So what I did was to simply cut the footrest off the part that attaches it to the bike, make a plate and re weld it on vertically lower down. This might sound a bit Micky mouse, but it works well and is just as durable and has been used both on and off road.

The problem isnt only lowereing the footrests, but getting the gear and brake pedals a couple of inches lower too.

The PO of my G/S had fitted home made low pegs , just a L shaped bracket around 75 x 100 mm made from 25 mm square hlllow section and a U shaped piece of 25 x 3 mm serated plate tacked to the botom tube.

Worked OK as long as you didnt try to change gear or brake with your foot still on the rest, and I eventually gave up trying to get the pedals where I like them and and went baack to stock.

If you have a good dirt bike shop close take one of your pegs along and see what they have in the way of replacements for Jap bikes - from memory Yam YZ WIDE pegs only need the pivot holes re drilled to make them fit a bit lower than stock.

Fabricated steel ones are available from the likes of Parts Unlimited for less than $20-, cast stainless foe a few bucks more.

But make certain you ask for Yam ones, if you ask for BMW ones they will be $100- quid more!:D

heres some pics of the "less than £20 option" inc postage :augie

You will of course maybe have to alter the adjustment on yer gear lever and or shorten it like I did
My hoofs are size 10 - I cut 20mm out of the lever - you may be able to see the join :rob

Essentially that is what I've done to my G/S, having fitted footrests from an ST, about £8 I think they cost me.

The bike still feels a little cramped, though the relationship between the pegs and controls feels spot on, so I've been considering putting some extra foam in the seat, and possibly raising the bars at the same time. Maybe this is the way to go? :nenau

I made up some pivoting pegs for my GS. They are pretty amateurishly made however were fun to make, work brilliantly, are more relaxing on the feet & best of all as they pivot my foot slides easily under the gear lever so I didn't have to shift it up a notch or replace it.

I've got the migsel lowered pegs. After adjusting the brake and gear levers, the fit for my boots seem fine.

The only problem I had was fitting them - I don't think the stock springs are the right parts, too small a gap to compress the two ends into and/or the wrong spring - was a right bugger to fit ('scuse the crap phone pic). Otherwise, I'm very happy with them :thumb2

I am in the process of fitting some Migsel Footrests now, any chance you could provide some photos of what you did to get the brake and gear levers to move them forward. I also have the Migsel shift lever roller which I think you have too and I am trying to decide how best to fit it.

Thanks

Mike
