Welcome to the collective :thumb

Luggage is an issue covered in detail with lots of personal views.

Try search with panniers as the subject and you'll see what I mean.

What options are you looking for?

Hi
Thanks
Tried that but got a load of results that had nothing to do with panniers
do you have any opinions?

Well I'd start by thinking about whether you want to go down the route of BM's varios which are designed specifically for the bike or an alternative.

Personally I prefer a top opening pannier rather than a side opening system so went aftermarket.

Hi
Warned off the the side opening ones (Varios?) - but like the key matching system
Seen Traxx on the web? Any views? Apologies for delay in response - still trying to learn my way round this forum (first visit to any forum) and getting frustrated trying to reply

No sign of a delay this end, no worries on that score :thumb

Just found the definitive pannier thread, click here and see if it helps.

Trax are new and have been delayed in delivery to suppliers, unknown quantity as yet but look the business IMPO and from a reputable manufacturer.

Lot of people waiting for them so delivery could be an issue regarding availability for your trip.

Thanks (again)
Had a quick perusal. The main problem is where I live (Guernsey in the Channel Islands)
There is no local supplier (so you can't go and look at the stuff)
We are EX VAT (lucky us - just need to get the suppliers co-operation in selling without VAT)
Really want to put a full face lid in either side pannier or top box - so is sfe when I get off the bike
Budget of max £1,500 - but must include top box, delivery, locks etc
Thnaks again - must log off now
will try and get back into this site again on the w/e

I'm aware of the vat situation in Guernsey and your maximum budget of £1500 translates to £1762.50 (for those of us who live in the real world :aidan ) which should pretty much cover any options I can think of.:rob

Caja Sahel produced a set of panniers which allowed a full face helmet to be stored in them for Pond Boy but it means the panniers will be wider than the handlebars and as your talking about touring the chances are you will be using the panniers for other items so using a top box for helmet storage would make more sense to me.

Metal Mule make luggage which is highly favoured by many members of the community but a full set of luggage would exceed even your budget which given other options is pretty frightening.

One option you might consider especially as the idea of having just one key for the bike and luggage is to fit 1200 GSA luggage on your bike. It means you will need to by a rear rack as well as pannier rails but all the components fit straight on and the topbox takes a full face helmet, speaking from experience on this one as I did it last year on my previous bike.

Going down the GSA route would of course mean you could deal direct with your local dealer simplifying delivery and vat issues and even negotiate a discount.

Happy hunting :thumb

Hi ashers welcome to UKGSer. I was going to shift your thread over to another section of the forum but thought it best to leave it here for a while until you've found you're way around the site (just in case you loose the info)

You could add this chap to your list. Take a read through the thread below (click on the link it should take you straight over)

As Thunder says, its more of personal choice and preference but good luck with your search and enjoy your stay with us.

Thanks
I have sort of come to same conclusion - especially re the use of top box for helmet storage
You make some good points re not having them too wide

My only bother is no local agent (worh talking to) so will ring CW Motorcycles on Tuesday (they are shut Monday)

Big thanks for the pics - very helpful

thanks for leaving it there - no idea where to look to find it

Have trouble finding the reply bit as well

Very impressed with the knowledge and friendliness of the other bods on this site tho

How would I "add this this chap to my list " please (what list?)
Thanks
Ashers

luggage

Hi Ashers I bought three locks when I got my GS12 some three years agoto go with the panniers, but have only now got round to buying the vario top box to mount my gear in - still not fitted the locks however! I think that you are on the right track, talking to CW about the Adventure luggage, which is what I would do if" I had my time again". Feel free to give me a call at some stage if you wish.:)

Using the BM GSA ones is probably the easiest route for metal panniers as they'll be a straight fit on. The cost might be a bit  though.

Got a TT special set on my GSA, better usage of space, but unless you get a discount the price is also a bit  I did :)

Another idea for helmets: http://www.cyclegadgets.com/products/product.asp?Item=GUARDIAN has worked well on my bikes

Thanks -spesh for the helmet lock idea
Have e-mailed CW Motorcycles in Dorset for prices / availability of the GSA boxes so fingers crossed

Saw some Traxx boxes but apparently they don't deliver . . . . . at all so far so was warnd off

SW MOtech have made a serious error in the delay of releasing the Trax range :blast

Starting to filter through now but lot of people waiting so a new order will have to join the queue :aidan

Traxx Panniers

Got my Traxx Panniers last weekend from BykeBitz in Yately Berks. Took all of 3 days from receipt of order to collection. Funny thing that when I was considering them, Nippy Normans said they had no forecast date but BykeBitz said 2-3days. Easy to fit to bike (took 1 hr, including assembling the Evo Carriers) Cost less than half the price of the B*W adventure panniers. Been using them all week and am well impressed.

If you want to have a look I'll be at the Ace on Sunday morning.

Steve
