Luggage

The four posts did not contain anything which was not factually correct. Removing them was something which I agreed to do since the non delivery was by no means Pidcock's fault - although it remains my opinion that the dealer could and should have kept me better informed as to progress with getting the panniers.

I've heard it all now dealers telling you to remove your posts FFS grow some balls and tell em to FOOK RIGHT OFF.

Unless they had a gun to my head I'd have told them to bollox, you have a right to voice your opinion and they have a right if they feel your remarks was inadequate to speak up rather than be stalkers.

Now your Pidcocks BITCH .
(No offence Ian)

That's good news Ian:clap

There must be hope for me getting mine for my holiday in September then:rolleyes:

Just spoke to Vines as I am picking my new bike up in the morning and amazingly he says they have the panniers and tank bag:clap:bounce1

My new panniers arrived last night as promised, Ryan from Piddy's picked up my key from my home on Wednesday, and said that he would match the key to the locks on my new panniers and deliver the new items back to me the following day on Thursday evening on his way home from work.

Bang on time at 7.00pm Ryan arrived on Chris Pidcock's own LC using it as a mule to deliver my new panniers which fitted bang on. I honestly cannot fault the service that I have had from this guy.

I still haven't been to their showroom, In fact I haven't a clue exactly where it is, Nottingham or Derby somewhere.

I bought the bike over the phone 'cos they offered me the best trade in by far.

The bike arrived when they said it would.

They delivered it to my home by van, I'm about 80 miles away.

Ryan collected it from my home for it's first service, he left his Triumph at my place and rode my GS to work, got it serviced (600 mile) fitted and keyed the Top Box and returned it the following night.

Then he sorted the panniers yesterday.

I know that they have come in for some criticism on this forum, but I can honestly say that I have never had this quality of service from anyone anywhere, bike or car.......so far BRILLIANT!

Talked to a few Germans in Austria over the last fortnight with new watercooled bikes and also the mechanic from a local dealer who was out on their demo bike , all had standard luggage fitted and all of the bikes had been supplied with them fitted.
Sounds like a load of tosh about factories being flooded more like BMW
underestimated the requirement for luggage and looked after their home market customers first.

I've got them on mine, just noticed last night!

I can't say I'm too bothered either way, but it will be interesting to see whether all future builds will come with washers*.

Hi Ding Dong,

Yes my new bike came with shims fitted, if you have the shims fitted then the panniers should fit okay.

I don't mind shims, my background is engineering and using shims is a standard engineering principle in many engineering jobs.

All the shims do is drop the front lower pannier mount a couple of millimeters to give clearance, which allows the top brackets to drop fully home, which in turn allows the slider to lock the pannier into position.

The shims, washers or whatever or you want to call them are absolutely nothing to worry about! ......well not unless they rust, but I presume that they are plated, plastic or stainless!

If you buy aftermarket panniers, the scaffolding will be engineered with some slack, ie clearance holes or slotted holes etc. It's just the same principle.

Someone mentioned earlier that the fitted shims caused his pannier lid hinge to brake, IMO this is just not possible, the washers, if fitted cannot affect the lid function at all!

The BMW panniers are superb compared to my Explorer panniers which had some weird pendulum mounting system that allowed the panniers to swing about in crosswinds, and they weighed a ton (well 3 stone 1 lb actually when empty for just the top box alone)!

Got my panniers Tuesday last week. Fitted no problems, bike does not have shims fitted.

I wouldn't be bothered if they were.
You can get stack up of tolerances in design and manufacture - this doesn't mean that anything is wrog in a big way, just that the tolerances all shift one way ( especially ilastics mouldings) and we need to fit a shim.

It's not clear what's actually "out" - is it the panniers or the frame or the pegs?
but for the pannier mount - its not critical.

Happens a lot in many industries.
