Mac help please ?

Hi Guys, i recently moved from PC to Mac, a move im very pleased with, have a query though,

in Windows if you want to select multiple files you can hold ctrl and click on as many as you like, what is the Mac equivalent, whatever i try to do i just end up selecting every file between the first and last file i clicked on when i want individual files.
