Macfee security centre Renewal?

I would suggest that you uninstall MacAfee, and install AVG instead, it's supposedly better than either MacAffee or Norton and better still it's free!

I finished with Mcaffe and installed Avast (free anti virus program) - Never looked back. Didn't stop Mcafee taking my subscription fees though. - I had a hell of a job "unsubscribing" and getting my money back.

They still insist on sending me spam on a regular basis - much of it advertising their anti spam products ironically

Hi Mark, i have Mcafee which came with the laptop, now running AVG, did you manage to uninstall their Security Centre? if so can you advise please, have tried the usual methods, didnot want to just delete.

Hi, my pc had mcafee when it came. i have tried a few other virus protection mos tof the free ones had adware issues (but I have tried the ones mentioned above). I ended up using Mocrosoft Antispyware, which was free. Its now called Defender http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

Iused this for the last 2 years and have never had any problems that I didnt inadvertantly 'allow' myself. No complaints for this package at all.

I'd thoroughly endorse AVG, and have read good reports also about Avast....both are available in free versions.
For my money, the best paid-for antivirus is NOD32 if one really must pay that is !

I'd certainly rank Avast along with all the top-notch products. I've been using it for years on quite a few machines, and it's never let me down yet.

The trouble is i have so much important information i dare not change in case i loose it.
I could Back it up but it would take for ever.

I am tempted though.
Is it really that reliable and if so how or why is it Free?
Is it easy to install?
Would it clash with Mcfee if i can't get rid of it as previously mentioned by a member?

if your information is important back it up - end of story. what are you going to do if your hard drive fails or your computer is swiped ? (and a 101 other probabilities)

2 anti-virus programs may clash depending what you are running and how it is configured you can configure one to work manually use one and then if you want to double check disable it and run the other. both running together will at the very least slow things down

avg is fine it all depends what you want out of the product - it is just a basic / cut down version of the full product - you can always pay for there soho or professional version
